Windows 10: Legacy VB6 program created in Windows XP. Trying to move exe to Windows 10

Many many years ago I developed a VB6 program accessing an Access db running on Windows XP. I am now trying to convert the application to run on Windows 10. Have had partial success but now really stuck and wondering if anyone could help.What I have done so far is:- changed & recompiled the XP VB6 program so that any references to the access database point to the location where I will place it on the Windows 10 desktop.- copied executable and Access database from XP desktop to Windows 10 desktop. Obviously gave an error on execution.- had to register 2 ocx files: mscomct2.ocx, msadodc.ocx-

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

vb6 program will only partially run on windows 10

My vb6 program consists of 4 windows forms. It compiled OK in vb6 and runs well on windows 7 by just copying the .exe and .txt data files into their own folder in the Program Files directory and generating a desktop icon to run it.

When I put the .exe and data files into windows 10 Program Files, three of the forms work, but one gave two error messages: "required files missing - install MSSTDFMT.DLL" and "run-time error 13 - type mismatch". I installed the .dll file and that error
message hasn't re-appeared, but the "type-mismatch" won't go away. I'm confused as to why win 10 can find a type mismatch in a compiled program that runs without problems in win xp and win 7. Does win 10 need some additional .dll files or something like
that? I cannot find a type mismatch in the vb6 source code (shouldn't it have bombed out during de-bugging and compilation had there been a type mismatch?).

As a point of information, I have several other vb6 programs up and running on win 10 by just copying the .exe and .txt data files, just as I did with the failed project.

VB6 on Win10

I have an EXE which was written in VB6 edition. It uses a "Comm Port" and lists all the available COMM ports of the system in a drop down. This EXE works well on Win7 and Win8.

But, when we use this EXE (developed in VB6) on Win10 OS, then dropdown containing the list of COMM ports is empty (even if the computer has few COMM ports available).

We have another EXE developed in VB2010 edition. This EXE lists all the COMM ports in a dropdown on: Win7, Win8 and Win10.

But, an EXE developed in VB6 doesn't work on Win10.

My expectation:

1. Can we "somehow" make an EXE (written in VB6) to list all available COMM ports on Win10 OS?

2. If above is not possible, then what is an alternate solution for it?
