Windows 10: Lenovo G510 : Windows 10 Hangs in Startup after adding HDD Caddy

I have Lenovo G510. I am using WD 1TB hard drive since 2 years.
I bought new SSD and replace HDD with SSD and then replace the DVD Drive with that 1TB Hard inside Universal Caddy.

Initially I was getting problem the drive doesn't show in Windows 10. I reseated the Caddy once again after that it started showing up.

Now it shows the secondary HDD but after start up it stops working like I get 100% active time, and 0 read and write.


There is flip in universal Caddy in which there are 3 states and I have set in the middle, but the problem is still
there HDD that I was using from years stops working inside caddy after 10 minutes startup every time in Windows 10


What can be the issue?

Windows wont boot whitout second drive

My laptop is an asus s56cb and recently i bought an hdd caddy an an ssd, then i moved my hdd to the caddy and then i added the ssd to the main sata port. And i did a fresh install of windows 10 to the ssd , and i did a format to the hdd. Since then my laptop
boots on bios and though there is nothing in the boot order , if i select save and exit it loads windows. The problem is when i try to boot whithout the second hdd in the caddy , then my computer wont boot at all though the other hdd is empty .

What can i do?

 

SSD Drive as Boot Drive and HDD Drive as Storage, how do I do it?

Recently, I have discovered an old Kingston 120gb SSD Drive in my drawers. I own a Lenovo laptop with a HDD Caddy with a 1 Tb hard drive in the bay and the SSD installed internally inside the computer. My computer runs with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

My question is; How would I configure my SSD so that it will be the boot drive, and the HDD in the Caddy as the Storage drive? Since 120gb of space in the SSD ain't exactly 'much'.

Can you share make model type of HDD Caddy. Not sure what the 3 states are.

Also i checked event viewer it said "Reset to device Device\RaidPort0 was issued"

I'll have to shut down to check if My caddy has the switch. I run the SSD in the caddy and the mechanical is still in the stock position. Running with dual matching SSDs I was surprised the one in the caddy runs around 10c cooler which is basically same as versus the HDD. UPDATE: The caddy on My G780 also has the switch. It has the switch in the position farthest from the SSD. Don't have time to check if moving it makes any difference since it's Sunday, but maybe next Week.

 

Lets try this. Did it come with manual that explains what the different position mean. Did it come with a reference to a web site that would explain?

 

I dont remember the Model though its the exactly the same one you have posted the link fro ebay but the problem is i went to shop today one again.

He tried to install 5 Caddy like this of same model but 5 different pieces but my Lenovo G510 doesnt pick the hard drive either it dont pick , only from 1 it picked and it got idle from every 3 minutes.

I have bought the SATA USB cable to connect but i want to know that why its not connecting
I havenot tried this caddy though only one option remain to use this, but i want to make sure it will work so i will order

The caddies are pretty much all the exact same one, except for the slimmer model. And there's no information included on the switch or anything else.They just advertise as fitting this model or that, but they're really universal. To Me it really sounds like the mechanical HDD is dying.

Also In My Opinion, the SSD should be in the caddy and the mechanical left in the default location. I have an older OCZ 120GB SSD that I run Win 8.1 as My Daily Driver along with some cheapo Kingston 120GB SSDs with Win 7, Win 10 etc. So using the caddy that way allows Me to easily swap the OS. (Love the NOVO button) The mechanical is a clone of My Win 8.1 drive and the rest of the drive partitioned for storage. My mechanical recently died and while waiting on a replacement I'm running a second SSD so I always have a fairly up-to-date clone of My OS.
