    have 2 monitors both 2560 x 1440

    Hello Redgruntlf,

I'm running a Nvidia P4000 8GB graphics card, it has four 1.4 display ports. I took your advice with the display port cables. I purchased two 1.4 display port cables, hooked everything up and Bam, both monitors are running at 2560 X 1440.

    Thanks for the info....

    have 2 monitors both 2560 x 1440

    Hi Todd.

I'm Nicolas and I'm going to help you solving that issue.

Do you know what kind of cables you are using?

Older HDMI cables from 1.0 to 1.2 are able to display up to 1920*1200p60 only.

HDMI 1.3 can deal with up to 2560x1600p75 resolution

HDMI 1.4 can deal with up to 4096x2160p30

HDMI 2.0 can deal with up to 4096x2160p60

HDMI 2.1 can deal with up to 4096x2160p120 or 8192x2160p60

The number following the p is for refresh rate in Hertz.

If you are using higher refresh rate such as 120 Hz, the max resolution will then be lower.

Eg. HDMI 1.4 could display 2560x1600p75 but would limited to 1920x1080p120. HDMI 2.0 would allow up 1920x1080p240 or 2560*1600p75

To check what refresh rates are now applied to your monitors, you can go to Windows Settings and then you go to System/Display and there at the bottom of the windows , you will see "Advanced Display Settings". In the example given in the picture, yo see there
is only one monitor, but if you have 2 there will be a drop-down list where you can select the one monitor displaying 1920*1080. Then you can click on "Display Adapters setting for display" and another windows will open. Go directly to the monitor tab and
there you will see a drop-down listing whatever refresh rates are available for that monitor. If it's displaying 120hz, lower that value to 60hz, and go back to display to see if you change the resolution to 2560*1440.

Max resolution can be degraded if the HDMI cable is longer than 32 feets.

Also a low quality HDMI cable whatever its version will downgrade the max resolution that you can reach, typically 1920x1080p

There is another solution in the case you would be using Display Port 1.2. From version 1.2 you may have 2 display ports on your monitor, one for input, the other for output. If one monitors is equipped with 2 Display Ports, you can daisy chain them to another,
connecting your computer to the first monitor then connecting another DP1.2 cable from the 1st monitor to the second one . This would allow to reach 2560*1440 on both monitor.

Also it would be useful to know what kind, brand and version of graphic adapter you are using, wether it be a PCI-Express graphic adapter in a computer tower, or discrete graphic adapter from a laptop. In that case I would need brand and model for this laptop.

I hope this will help you. If nothing is changing or if you need some more explanations, please let me know.

    Have a nice day,

    Nicolas.
