  1. Lenovo Thinkpad ThrottleStop Profile Question

One of the guides suggests that it would be a good idea to make at least two profiles, one when plugged in and one on battery. My questions is I have threshold set to start charging at 70% and stop at 85%. However the notebook has not been off my desk going now on 4 months and has always been plugged in though it only charges while plugged in when it dips below 70%. So I am not sure if I need two profiles or not since it is always plugged in. When it is not charging it runs off of the battery but when it hits 70% it starts charging and stops at 85%. Do I need to make one profile while charging and one when it runs off of battery or is one profile sufficient since it is always plugged in. Thanks.

    :)

    Thanks for the reply.

My laptop is mentioned on the question, but regardless it's a Lenovo Thinkpad X230i.

It has been fixed through the Devices And Printers solution.

    Thanks for the help.

    Lenovo Thinkpad ThrottleStop Profile Question

    Hello phaedruspress, *Smile

Usually, you would only want to use two different power plans (profiles) if you want each one to perform different actions when you switch between them.

If your current profile serves your needs, then I'd say there's no need to have another.

  5. Hi - This is the guide I was referring to. Note I have not as yet installed ThrottleStop and undervolted.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/How-to....213140.0.html

    and particularity this part:

"Once your undervolts have been set, it’s a good idea to set up at least two profiles (if you have a laptop). The first profile should be set in Options to be your AC profile. Check the box for “Battery Profile”, and select another profile to use on battery. This will cause ThrottleStop to automatically switch between the two profiles based on whether it is on battery."

And that is the part that confuses me. Since I am always plugged in all the time I am only running off of AC when the threshold dips below 70% and then stops when it gets back up to 85%. The rest of the time even though I am plugged in it is not charging and I am running off of battery. The instructions seem to indicate that the profiles will auto switch from AC to battery. So I an not sure if I need two profiles or not. One for when it is plugged in and charging from AC and one when it is plugged in and not charging. I am beginning to think I am "over" thinking this : )

In your situation, it doesn't appear that you'll need two profiles since it will only be charging while plugged in.
