Windows 10: Lenovo ThinkPad x1 Carbon Gen 7 Boot-up Repair Loop After Windows Updates

We have 12 brand new Lenovo ThinkPad x1 Carbons which we deployed in the field. They're running Win 10 x64 and are domain PCs. We have been encountering a major issue where following a Windows update and reboot, 6 out of those 12 X1's have entered into a boot-up automatic repair loop. We have tried every available option to repair/recover/restore the OS without success. We have not tried a USB recovery drive or restore to factory because that is not a viable option for end-users in the field. The Lenovo diagnostics tool does not detect any hardware related issues. The only fix is to re-image the laptop.


We have been unable to isolate which Windows update is the culprit, although there was some thought that it may be the 1903 update.


After speaking with Lenovo support, they indicated the issue was the docking station which we deployed in conjunction with some of those X1's, which apparently is a JP-spec'd dock rather than a US-spec'd one. Except, some of those X1's are in the field without a dock and are experiencing the same issue.


Lenovo's only other option is to restore to factory or re-image the drive. Needless to say, we've pulled all X1's from the field and are "grounding" them since we can no longer rely on them.


Any thoughts or a point in the right direction would be very helpful.

Which pen would work with Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 2?

Hi All,

I've been having a VERY difficult time identifying a pen that would work with my thinkpad...I think the lenovo support agent was also having a hard time identifying one, which is surprising, as it has a touch screen on it.

Here is the specifics of my machine:

X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (Type 20A7, 20A8) Laptop (Thinkpad)

Any advice would be most appreciated.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA for new lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon with latest windows build

Hello, Recently I bought new thinkpad x1 carbon (6th gen) and from beginning it is frequently having BSOD with message PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. After checking the dump file its pointing towards ntoskrnl.exe and the minidump link is attached.

I tried updating all drivers and reinstalling the windows but same problem.

If anyone have any solution please help.
