Lenovo W540 WINDOWS 10 HDMI output ISSUE => UNRESOLVED

    Dears,

since 6 months I noticed a really annoying issue. When I connect my W540 to HDMI to a TV or a projector, the audio doesn't work.

I have to uninstall and reinstall audio drivers, but as soon as I make an hot HDMI plug through ultra dock station or miniDP connector, sounds disappears and I had to swear to get it back. if it gets back, because with the projector it will never come back.

I use a really long HDMI cable > 5m, but this should' t be an issue.

Tried to update K21000 driver to the last version https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds037793

Tried to unplug the W540 battery.

I am quite desperate and unable to resolve this issue !!!
Tried all options here but NONE working https://support.microsoft.com/id-id/help/4520288/windows-10-fix-sound-problems

Sound comes after each reboot. After the 2nd HDMI hot plug sounds disappear. That's weird and crazy !

Tried to reduce the screen resolution

I hope somebody can help me in resolving definitively this issue.

I read several post but none provide an effective solution.

    I am bored an frustrated.

  2. HDMI

    Hi Craig,

We appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

Please try the methods below and check if it works.

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check.

Let’s first check if “HDMI Output” is selected as the default device.

    Follow these steps:

    • Click Start and select
      Control Panel.
    • On the right hand side of the screen, under
View by: click the drop-down icon and select Large icons.
    • Click Sound.
    • If you do not have the
HDMI Output listed under “Playback” tab, right click in the
playback window and select Show Disabled Device and
      Show Disconnected Device.
    • If the HDMI Output option appears, right-click
      HDMI Output and select Default
      Device.
Now the audio must be playing on HDMI

    Method 2:

I suggest you to update the HDMI drivers. Refer the below link to check how to update drivers in Windows 10.

How to: Install and Update drivers in
    Windows 10

If the issue persist, try to update the recent HDMI drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check if the issue is resolved.

I hope the above information helps. Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

5.1 surround sound issue in Windows 10

    Hi,

    Thank you for your response.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

If you’re connecting an optical cable the settings would be changed so try the following steps

    Two options:

    1. Use the optical S/PDIF output of your motherboard.

    2. Use the HDMI output of your GPU. (This is what I'd recommend if you're using a HDMI display).

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Go to control panel.

    • Select sound.

    • Click on playback devices.

For option 1- connect the cable and set the 'Realtek digital output' as default device.

    • Then right click on it.

    • Go to properties.

    • At the rightmost tab select DTS or Dolby Digital or 5.1.
For option 2-connect the HDMI cable through the receiver and set the 'Nvidia HDMI Output' as your default device. Then click 'Configure' and select 5.1 and check if it helps.

If the issue persist then, I suggest you to connect the speakers directly and check in the realtek audio manager if he gets the 5.1 option or not using the SPDIF\output.

Keep us posted on this issue so that we can assist you better.

To have a better understanding of the issue, please help us with the following information:

    1. Are you trying to output Audio via HDMI/headset or to a speaker/headset connect to your HDMI device?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to update the audio driver and set HDMI Device
