  2. How to make cellular calls from Windows 10 PC

I have a Lenovo Laptop which is equipped with SIM slot as the laptop has LTE connectivity and I can connect to the internet anywhere,

the question is, Can I make phone calls from the laptop or not?

I have another Laptop which was upgraded to windows 10 since it was released and I found a Phone App but when I try to search for that App from this Lenovo laptop I can't find it.

so now I need to know if there is a way to make Cellular Phone calls from windows 10 or not?

  3. Cyan Update for Lumia Icon

Ridicules for Microsoft to allow the carriers to release OS updates on Windows Phones. What if Microsoft allowed other venders like DELL, Lenovo, HP, etc. to release updates for Windows 8.1. Come on Microsoft why can’t you just release the Windows
Phone updates! If the carries can’t or won’t get on board as least the end user (the ones paying out the nose for lousy customer support and service from their carriers) could receive updates on their phones just like the do on other Windows devices.

  6. After spending all of its time (since W7) wrecking the Desktop GUI, it would be the "icing on the cake", if MS dropped its crazy dream of conquering the mobile market.

  7. You really shouldn't "want" Microsoft to fail in the mobile market. I think it will anyway, but tech companies need to succeed in that space, especially as PC sales continue to flush away.

I take it Lehnerus2000 that you mean to say, if mobile initiatives fall away, then Microsoft will have more time to focus on the desktop/Explorer based portions of Windows, am I right? That won't really happen. That doesn't make good business sense in 2016 or 2017. Do not deny to yourself that the PC is dying. It will still be around say five or ten years from now, but not as a progressive market force.

Mobile development (as much as I hate it) needed to happen. That is where the growing customer base will be. But Microsoft was sleeping on it for too long. It's all in Google's and Apple's hands now.

"Icing on the cake" wasn't meant to be taken as an expression of joy.
It was exasperation (that's why I used the "Doh" smiley).

I don't care if MS succeeds in the mobile segment or if they fail (see below).

How many years is it going to be before all businesses replace desktops (or their equivalent) with iPhones (or their equivalent)?

What I meant was that MS trashed the goodwill that they had built up with W7 (IIRC, you preferred Vista).

There was never any need to trash the desktop OS (W7) to develop a mobile OS (W8)
Most users don't care how stuff actually works, as long as the GUI is basically the same as before.
MS should have developed two completely separate GUIs.

Behind the scenes they could have worked on unifying the code base.
Given MS' current coding performance, it probably would have taken two major releases, before they could actually successfully merge both GUIs.

If W10 fails, it's more likely that MS will completely drop the mobile and desktop markets and spend all of their time on their "Cloud" products.

    Agreed.

However, I expect that mobile growth will drop steeply, as market saturation will be achieved much faster than was the case with desktop PCs.
Adoption rates will drop to match replacement rates, like in the desktop PC market.

Windows phones are like 'a dead man walking'. They simply do not have a chance, personally I have a Nexus 6P (new model is called the Pixel) and I love, love, love it.

I'm very happy with my Windows Phone running the latest Insider build. I plan on using a Windows Phone for as long as I can. If MS gives up on the Windows Phone I'll go back to a Android Phone. I still have my old Galaxy Phone if I ever need it. What's really nice about it is it's the pre-exploding model.

    Hi there

Whatever the merits or otherwise of Windows Phones -- one has to accept that it really is DOOMED -- no future in it whatsoever.

Unfortunately best technology doesn't always win

Examples -- Tape cassettes vs Minidisc, Betamax vs VHS, OS/2 vs Windows, Token ring vs TCP/IP, NTFS vs zillions of better Linux file systems, NTSC vs PAL (in fact the old US TV standard was so hideous we used to call it Never Twice Same Colour )-- some of the old programs still have ludicrously "purple" faces etc -- most US citizens could never understand why I often used to laugh years ago at even watching the commercials --the colour was simply a total JOKE !!!. Of course now the whole TV system is different with satellite etc.

I think though you'll have to regard Windows phone as dead now -- it's almost impossible to get any really useful apps on it like Banking, Pay by mobile, Mobile tickets for trains (m-tickets) (what are those people in US might say !!), planes etc, Hotel bookings, Amazon shopping etc etc. Also if you ever visit London it's really easy to use APPLE or ANDROID phone for public transport "Oyster card scanner" readers -- no messing around with ticket machines etc. Other cities also implementing same cashless and mobile phone scanning systems too. Not on Windows phones though.

Supermarkets too etc -- simply put phone on a touch device and bill is paid (Iceland up to 50 EUR - if greater then simply add your pin) . In UK I think it's 30 GBP and other EU countries about 30 - 50 EUR. Great for quick payments --I rarely carry ANY cash these days.

I don't think Windows phones have any of these sorts of very CONVENIENT apps on them.

    Cheers
