  2. Running out of ideas. Just to confirm this was found under Storage Controllers in device manager?

Well as this started with SSD maybe your journey should next be focus on it.

You didn't mention make and some makes are easier than others. Where I'm heading is checking SSD firmware.

I run a Samsung and their product "Samsung Magician" tells me immediately. My OCZ had a linux boot that you could run and interrogate.

You have to watch firmware updates. Some say non destructive and turn out very destructive, nothing is left on drive.

Can I suggest you research what tool is available for your device to determine current firmware and if newer is available.

You can always post here, someone may know exactly how to determine.

No, the driver was found under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Looking under storage controllers, I can see Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller which reports it is up to date.

As for the SSD, it is a Drevo X1 Pro 240GB. I cannot immediately find any firmware update software for it.

This issue is becoming rather urgent, as I am going on holiday with my laptop in a few days. What do you think about trying a clean install, and seeing how that goes? If it continues not to work, as a last resort, I might put in my old HDD temporarily until I return and can find a more permanent solution.

    Many thanks.

Okay. Just check and that is where an Intel forum said to find. Min, on a seven machine is running Raid and shows under Storage Controllers.

If I were you I would install HDD, make sure things are running right, (handle the updates) over the next couple of days and then pick it on return.

A clean install fixes a lot of evils, whether it will fix this is a guess.

I too will be offline starting today for a week.

    Enjoy your trip !

    Hi Ken,

Sorry for the long delay, still enjoying a holiday! Before leaving, I re-inserted the original HDD, and restored the Macrium image I backed up before enabling driver verifier. As I still had issues after clean installing on the SSD, I felt that software issues were likely illiminated. However, after reinstalling the HDD, the freezing continued, indicating that that the SSD was not the issue.

As the laptop was still unreliable, I decided not to take it on my trip. My final thought was that the bios update that I ran right before I installed the SSD might have been the issue. Do you think that this would cause the freezing? If so, any ideas how I would go about restoring the BIOS to an earlier version?

Unfortunately I won't be able to work on the laptop for another week and a bit, as I am still abroad.

    Thanks for your patience!

  6. Hey soopg.

Guess were both back. Interesting that you would be having a BIOS issue as I think the Yoga community would be screaming, especially as it happens with spinning and non spinning drives.

I would check Chipset driver level and the Intel Management Engine. It might be an idea to check all the drivers they have posted but as you ran driver verify successfully this may not provide any real results,

Not saying you don't have a BIOS issue. When you updated BIOS did you reset it to defaults and then apply changes?

As to going back, depends on device. I know on my Asus BIOS there was lots of how to's and some worked, some didn't. Myself, I haven't tried. I looked on Professor Google and again lots of responses. You would have to do a far more detailed search and they may have a forum, specific to your device, that may bear answers.

Is there any pattern to the freezing. Does it come back if you just leave it alone? If something like using a browser or something not too complex I would suggest a test with a different OS. This would required a drive, maybe your SSD, your call. You could install Ubuntu to the drive and test drive. If it freezes with Ubuntu then BIOS / hardware is root cause. If it doesn't then we are back to Windows or a third party driver being at fault. Of course if you need to load up the system to cause a freeze this could be more difficult in Ubuntu.

FYi, someone else posted the same issue at the Lenovo fourms:
Flex 3-1570 event log warning messages in Windows 10 - Lenovo Community

This part of that post might indicate you either have a setting in the BIOS that needs to be changed or you may need to switch your power plan to high performance to see if that fixes your issue:

The speed of processor 2 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.

    Good luck,

WOT, thanks very much for the info, interesting!
A few months back, I had an issue with the laptop which would mean that the CPU speed was limited on low battery.
See this link: CPU speed at 0.48Ghz during low battery - - Windows 10 Forums
The resolution was to disable BDPROCHOT in throttlestop, which was only effectively a workaround. However, after the BIOS update, the issue appeared to resolve itself after sleeping and waking the laptop!
I will see what I can do when I return from my trip.

    Many thanks.
