Windows 10: Lexmark x4650 connection problem with Windows 10 version 2004

Lexmark X4650 printer can have 2 problems in Windows 10.


1. Lexmark X4650 printer has no communication with PC when initially installing printer on original Windows 10 PC.

2. Lexmark X4650 printer has no communication with PC after a major Windows 10 update to version 2004.


I ran into this specific problem again after I upgraded my Windows operating system to version 2004 about 2 weeks ago.

I will post a potential solution to this problem in a few minutes to help other who have ran into this problem with the Lexmark X4650 printer or other Lexmark printers from the same era.

No.

However, I've just found the solution. I posted a similar thread at Tom's Hardware, and was given information on how to download a relatively recent driver for my printer. I installed it, and everything works now.

Thank you for your suggestion, though.

 

Lexmark x4650 Printer

After upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10, my LexMark x4650 printer stopped communicating with my computer. Decided to get x4650 driver from Lexmark site. Could not find x4650 driver for Windows 10. Remembered that at one time when I was using Windows
XP I couldn't find a driver for a loaner printer so I downloaded a universal print driver bit of software that actually worked for basic print functions. I went to www.lexmark.com and under Customer Support found Universal Print Driver. Downloaded the universal
driver instruction manual and the driver package. After deleting all of the Lexmark files I could find I ran the downloaded file. Set the x4650 as the default printer and BINGO!!. Have'nt checked all of the features of the x4650 but print works.

 

Lexmark x4650 does not print with Windows 10

Lexmark X4650 printer cartridges have question marks on them.

Lexmark X4650 printer does not print in Windows 10 with updated current software.

Lexmark X4650 printer previously worked successfully in Windows Vista.

On one of the Lexmark support pages for this printer, there is the following comment:

‘These products were developed before Lexmark had knowledge of the re-designed Windows 10 printing system but will support basic printing features. Microsoft may choose, at its own discretion, to completely discontinue printing support for these products
in future Windows 10 operating system updates.’



It now appears that neither Lexmark nor Microsoft have created any print drivers to support the Lexmark X4650 printer in Windows 10. This may also apply to other older Lexmark printers from the same era. The following instructions were created
for the X4650 printer but may also apply to other Lexmark printers that printed successfully under Windows Vista.




By installing Windows 8 32bit print drivers for the X4650 printer from the Lexmark web site first, the Lexmark X4650 printer will print correctly from Window 10 using normal printing options, snipping tools, etc.



Uninstall all the existing Lexmark programs using the M/S Windows 10 uninstall program.

This is important.

• Go to
  www.lexmark.com
• Click ‘customer support’
• Under drivers and utilities, click ‘drivers & downloads’.
• On the next screen there are 4 enterable fields as follows:
• A. product name enter
  ‘Lexmark X4650’
• B. select operating system select ‘Windows’
  
• C. select version select ‘Windows 8 (32 bit).
  **this is very important**.
• D. select a language select ‘English’
• Click submit
• At the bottom of the screen, data will be displayed using a heading called ‘drivers and software – recommended driver’. It will mention ‘complete drivers and software for a 32 bit operating system.
  The file name to be used should be ‘cj4600en32.exe’.
• Click that data to get to another screen which should have ‘download’ in blue at the bottom of the screen. Click ‘download’ which will get you to anther screen with 3 options:
  run, save, or cancel. Click run and follow instructions.
• When the Lexmark ‘install’ for the actual printer thru the Lexmark web site comes up, cancel it and do the following like I did.
  
• After the drivers are download, insert the Lexmark 4600 series installation CD into your computer. When eventually prompted, check the radio button for a brand-new printer installation, not a change or an addition. Click by many screens that show
  how to open, unpack, and setup the printer and load printer cartridges. Later, for my Windows 10 installation, I used the wireless connection.
  

After I finally got my printer to print correctly using a Windows 8 32bit driver, I went back and completely deleted everything I had done. I then created these detailed instructions in the hope they may help others not waste the many hours, effort,
and searches before getting the printer to print correctly under Windows 10.
