Windows 10: LG 27" monitor with HDMI & windows 10 = headache inducing blurry text!

You are supposed to use DVI or Display port for best results HDMI is ok but for crisper resolution Display port or DVI is just a lot better

 

I'm really comparing it to my work pc running windows 7 and an IBM 24" monitor...it's not just the text that is harder on the eyes, it's almost like the old days of CRT monitors...where if you didn't have the refresh rate at optimum setting, it gave you a headache because of the blurriness, that kind of deal.....I'm going to systematically start replacing stuff , starting with the video card on suspicion that the driver is much older and wasn't necessarily designed for windows 10 and isn't even being updated by the manufacturer , but hopefully ending before having to buy another monitor...I do have an old CRT , but its only got the VGA connector.

Have a look also on the Monitor HARDWARE controls too -- have a look for example at picture settings -- adjust properly things like SHARPNESS, Contrast, colour, Brightness etc. On some monitors there's also Backlight controls. If you have a Gamma control use that too - it's more effective at times than Brightness / Contrast combo.

Having the Hardware settings not properly set can cause real problems with the picture -- not always Windows fault.

On some monitors you'll only be able to get into these settings with the handset - especially if it's a dual purpose monitor - i.e TV / Monitor. Choose Menu or Setup on the handset.

Check also FREQUENCY is correct -- this is done in the Advanced settings when you are in Windows-->display settings

Well IBM is used for businesses, i thought they were bought out by another company. Refresh rate i feel should not affect sharpness of a picture if it was off would cause flickering in the picture. You can double check this in Windows or with your AMD driver software, but windows and the driver will usually automatically set the proper refresh rate usually 60hz and along with the native resolution of the monitor.

Yes this card is an older model and no longer supported for driver updates, but that does not mean the Video Card will not work with the drivers for Windows 10 it stated updates would be only available within windows update, i believe Windows 8 might of been the last made drivers.

I am not sure about changing the video card yet in case it could be something else, the monitor, it's connections (HDMI) ,the monitors settings or some other conflict. I know it is frustrating, but changing other hardware at a cost may not solve it unless you want to upgrade the Video Card for other reasons.

Old CRT is going to be no comparison i feel with a VGA connection to tell.

There are some things you have not tried yet and telling me about to be able to help you further. Does the Video card have a DVI connection, have you tried it ? Did you go through checking the settings on the monitor ? So the Video Card is separate i have been asking this a number of times and for the model of the ASUS Motherboard so i can also check the support site. I think i also asked if you had this monitor before Windows 10 on a PC and how it worked ? You have no other monitor to try on this PC or try this monitor on another PC, this may then tell you if the monitor is o.k..

Safe mode will eliminate the AMD driver and use a basic Microsoft Driver, but will also run at a lower resolution and really not look better, well see how it looks though you can try.

 

I've had similar issues since moving to 10 from 7.
For me 7 was far superior in display setup.
Its not your graphics card or monitor, its definitely 10 as the problem.
I cant even use regular themes anymore I'm forced into high contrast.

have any of you actually tried some of the HARDWARE settings from the HARDWARE menu (via Handset etc -- not from Windows) -- a lot of these problems aren't Windows Fault but incorrect hardware settings.

I've posted this stuff because it actually does work for a lot of monitors -- there's no point IMO of just bashing around with Windows settings if it doesn't work --at least TRY the hardware settings. I

If the fonts were generally as bad as you say then zillions of people would have complained already -- and there haven't been masses of complaints about this.

I've tried this on at least 3 LG monitors and TV's up to 42 inch --and works fine.

Windows 7 settings will be easier since in the last few years we have now really MONSTER size TV's with far superior graphics etc so drivers will by necessity be more complex than W7 - this is why sometimes you need to adjust the hardware as well.

By "hardware" I assume you mean the monitors picture controls ?
Yes and nothing has worked for me no matter what I try. Fonts are blurry
and the standard themes are bad.

But I fail to see the comparison.
If I have not changed these "hardware" settings going from 7 to 10, then
by definition 10 has forced me to do this. Minor changes I understand
but the ones I had to make were pretty drastic just to make it readable

I've been a system builder for 30 years, never had so many display and graphics issues
from window 3.1 to window 10.
