Windows 10: LG extrenal disk drive keeps saying discs are not supported

Hi,I have a LG Slim Portable DVD WriterModel: GP65NB60SVC Code: NB72, rating 5V 1.6AManufactured May 2024When I plugin the external DVD drive it powers on and shows up in the file explorer but when you try to open the drive to see the files I get this disc is not supported and needs to be formatted.I have tied a new drive on this computer and I get the same error. I have tried the old drive on another computer and it works and I am able to read the disc. I have tried to update the DVD driver in the device manager and there are no updates. I have tried installing the device from device manager

Is My LG WH16NS40 Optical Drive There or Not?

I am using a LG WH16NS40 DVD/Blu-ray drive on a desktop system running Windows 10 Pro 2004.

Suddenly the drive no longer appears in the navigation (left) pane in Windows File Explorer. It still appears in the right pane, but when I double-click on it, I get a dialog saying, "Insert a disc," even if there's already a disc in it.

With or without a disc, the drive is listed in Disk Management with "No Media." Right-click > General tab there says, "This device is working properly." Attempts to update the driver result in, "The best drivers for your device are already installed." Likewise, no problems in Device Manager.

I have run the manufacturer's firmware flasher and updated the firmware. That tool now recognizes the drive and indicates that I have firmware version 1.05. That is the latest version listed on the manufacturer's webpage. The tool does not support reverting to an earlier version or reflashing the current version.

The drive has not been in heavy use. At six years, I'm not sure whether it qualifies for death due to old age.

Any suggestions?

 

LG slim external disc drive problem

I have the LG slim external drive which is generally good and reads all discs so far except it is failing to read Maxell CD-R discs from a few years ago. Can this be fixed or do I need to buy another type of external drive? I am using windows 10.

I would suggest you to provide some information to help you better.

• For which drive are you facing this issue?
• Did you make any changes prior to this issue?
• What error are you getting?
• Are you referring to Disc drive or Hard drive?

If it is a Drive partition of the hard drive let's try the below steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

• Press Start and type This PC.
• On top you can see file ribbon. Select a drive and Click on
  manage.
• Select Optimize. Select the Drive which you want to optimize.
• Click on analyze and click Optimize.
• Restart the PC and check.

Note: This might take a long time to analyze and optimize. So better keep the laptop plugged in to charger. If the laptop shuts down in between the process it may cause issues.

I would suggest you to install the pending updates logging into Microsoft account.
