License help on partly rebuilt computer

    Good afternoon,

a few weeks ago, my personal PC gave up the ghost. I tested everything and discovered it was simply the motherboard. The PC was only a little more than 4 years old and as I just invested in a new business PC, I thought it wise to only buy the components necessary... motherboard, CPU, Fan, memory and a WLAN PCIe card. The SSDs and power supply were in good condition.

I installed everything and it worked, short of the WLAN card. While I understand that with a new motherboard, Windows would need be clean installed again, I was mistakenly more fixed on the WLAN card. My mistake. As soon as I sorted the WLAN card, the PC crashed. Recovery tools aren't allowing me back into Windows, so a clean install is definitely necessary.

My concern or question is that I have neither the product key nor the license for that machine available. I understand that a reinstall has the ability to find them on the SSD, but in the case of a clean install, not. How can I go about retrieving those for the clean install?

When I purchased the PC in December 2016, Windows came pre-installed and I only needed to register it. I have no documentation and that particular shop has closed of late.

    Please advise.

    Cheers!

    :)

  2. Transfer windows 10 license to rebuilt computer

The 10 year old computer, which has a Vista product key, I was using has been rebuilt. Vista had been up graded to Windows 7 and then to Windows 10. During the rebuild process I had to reformat my hard drive which caused the license to disappear.

When I enter the Vista product key it says it is no good. Since I was using Windows 10 I thought that license would be in my MS account.

My MS account now shows the rebuild computer and the old broken computer.

How can I transfer the license to my rebuilt computer?
