    Hello, Can someone from Microsoft confirm what licenses would be needed to fit the following use case:Need to license legacy as well as current Windows products XP, 7, 10The VMs will only have one user account that gets used, but would be utilized by multiple developers in our orgThe VMs would be hosted on a physical server and would be accessed through RDP

    Windows Server 2016 Standard VM Licensing

    Hello

    I have a physical server that I already installed windows server 2016 on and activated using an OEM license.

    If I create 2 VMs using hyper V, can I activate the 2 VMs using the same license key I used to activate the physical server with?

    Second question, if I need two additional VMs, can I buy another Oem license, to activate the other 2 newly created ones and have a total of 4 activated VMs ?

    Hyper-V VM server licensing

    Hello,

    We have a VM running a 2012 R2 OS and are having an issue applying the license we have purchased.

    I was advised that a 2019 standard license would work for licensing a 2012 server and this is not working when typing in the key to the VM.

    Can anyone point out what could be the issue, maybe I'm supposed to type the key into the Hyper-V host?

    Hi all,

    I mostly understand how Windows Server licensing works, but there are several pieces of language that confuse me as to what exactly constitutes a virtual OSE(Operating System Environment) that needs to be licensed.

    Suppose that on a server running VMWare ESX/ESXi I have two Windows Server Standard VMs (thus requiring me to license all the cores in the server once over), and in addition am running other VMs (e.g. Windows 10, Linux, etc.).

    Is it true that those other VMs do not constitute OSEs that need to be licensed (via Windows Server Standard licensing)? That is to say, do I only need to purchase Windows Server licensing to cover those 2 VMs that are running Windows Server, without that
    affecting all the other VMs I am running?
