    Lightest Windows 10 edition for mini PC

    Hello,

    I bought a Cyclone mini PC which runs Windows 10 Home. My PC has an Intel Atom quad-core CPU at 1.33 GHz and 2 GB of RAM.

    There are some processes like "System", "Windows Modules Installer Worker" or "Service Host: Local Service" which consume more than 30% of my CPU usage in total.

    Therefore, I am looking for the lightest version of Windows I can install in my mini PC, a version which would allow more CPU resources for my apps.

    I searched about Windows IoT but I realised that is for devices such as Raspberry Pi.

    Also, would Windows 7 Embedded be a better option that Windows 10 Home?

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    With 4GB of RAM, the 32bit version will run perfectly

    Windows 8 was deprecated and Windows 8.1 will install on your system, with no issues.

    Most likely, your system had Windows 8.1 Home installed, in Windows 10, go to Settings - System - About

    What edition of Windows is listed there, is it Home, Pro . . .etc.?

    Whatever edition that is, then that is the edition of Windows 8.1 to install . . .

    Please follow the steps above one at a time and you should have no trouble installing Windows 8.1 - please remember to backup your data before proceeding . . .
