Windows 10: Link to Google Drive FileStream lost on every restart

Does anyone else have the problem of the link to Google Drive FileStream being lost/broken every time their PC is restarted?


The problem started with the update to version 1803 and still persists in version 1809 (Windows 10 Pro), despite a complete reinstall of all software. It's a very annoying issue, and to rectify it, the 'old' version of Drive FS has to be uninstalled, the PC restarted, then the Drive FS software reinstalled.


I've tried completely removing all references to Drive FS in the registry and in the file system, but on the next restart the link is again lost

Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown
I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. Tell us more what's going on, please answer these questions:

• What is the make and model of your computer?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Did you make any hardware changes on your computer before this issue happened?
• Have you checked if the DVD Drive is showing up in Device Manager?
