List Compelling Reasons to upgrade to Upgrade to Windows 10 for Novice

I feel that we as experts on this forum should try and persuade any novices who are not sure about upgrading to Windows 10 should help explain why its good for them to upgrade from earlier versions.

    So I'll start off:

    • Latest security
    • Support for latest technology

    :)

  2. Rotation Lock button is gone from Action Center

By the way, Acer seems not doing good on their products. This is my second one from Acer, I have a Predator 8 tablet and the same it has problem that need to be brought back to manufacture repair within one year. Lucky that was still warranty. To me that
it is 100% chance product will fail. I would never touch any Acer product again!!!

  3. Rotation Lock button is gone from Action Center

I don't when it starts to happen since I am using my tab like a desktop most of the time. Couple weeks ago I started finding my Acer tab Switch SA5-271 cannot rotate the screen at all.

Trying to enable it from Action Center but the button is gone.

I also tried to look for it in the Display setting, the switch button is also gone under the Landscape Orientation.

I looked for it from "Notifications & actions" setting to try to add the button back to Action Center, the Rotation On/Off switch is not available.

So I started to find the latest update from Acer and Microsoft, it is now with everything up to date but it is still no helping. No auto screen rotation at all.

Does any have the same issue and know how to solve it?

    Thanks,

    Raymond

    Hi there

Another good one -- STORAGE SPACES -- this means you can aggregate a number of DIFFERENT SIZED volumes into a larger storage space -- great if you have say a large number of Music / Video files -- most applications will restrict the size to ONE volume -- now you could have say a 4TB video / music folder which is actually made up of a load of smaller capacity HDD's.

You can also use the storage spaces as RAID - unlike standard RAID this allows different size volumes to be used.

Better security is another reason - and newer hardware support too.

In the future newer more resilient file systems will also be developed.

    Cheers

Well, users should only upgrade if there is a reason for them to do so.

If all they do is write letters in word, then it doesn't much matter. However, if they plan on doing more.. if they want to use the latest internet technologies, if they want to take advantage of store apps, if they want a Windows Phone and want to use the same apps in both the store and their desktop. If they want the An OS that will be supported longer than their current one. If they want an OS that will get updates on a regular basis and "evolve" as time goes on... getting new features over time.

Unlike previous versions of Windows, this one has the upgrade in your face so more users will likely do an upgrade of their existing OS just because the OS offers it. But then again, lots of users are probably not up to date either...

  7. Well ... I'm going to "break from the pack" here and disagree. I don't see our role to persuade folks to upgrade. I've been running Win10TP since the beginning, mostly out of curiosity -- and what I've seen MS do with it has largely been disappointing. Lots of changes for the sake of change. Moving things around simply because they can.

My biggest disappointment with MS is the disaster they call the Start Menu. Their press releases say it's back, but in reality, it's NOT. It's not a new version of the Win7 start menu, instead, it's a miniature version of the start screen -- complete with live tiles and a metro UI.

I'm not comfortable being an Evangelist for Win10. Personally, I've seen nothing "compelling" in Win10 to encourage folks to upgrade. If anything, it's more like Win8.2 (with a so-called Start Menu), than it is Win10. The good news is, all my Win8.1 stuff works in it just fine. The bad news is, there's nothing really revolutionary about Win10 (to me) that makes it exciting to use it.

IMHO, the service we SHOULD be providing to new folks is a list of Win10 "improvements" coupled with realistic assessments of the value of each of them -- and then, let them decide if they want to do the upgrade to Win10.

But, that's just my 2 cents...

    Hi there

What's wrong with it (Start menu).

You can delete all the tiles etc if you want.
Now to run ANY program you don't even need the search - just type the program you want to run ON (IN ? Eng) the menu area (anywhere) -- local windows will pick it up

For example I like the OLD spider solitaire (from W7).

so I just type spider solitaire on the menu, click my stuff and it finds it. --EASY

Good point Jimbo. That's how I use Win7's menu. I hate scrolling. of course only for seldom used not pinned stuff.

First of all I do not believe that there are that many experts in this forum. I can name about 3. As SlartyBart pointed out, many users skilled or not will take it because it is free.

They said that they may go open source but I doubt that.

Well free is a very good reason in my opinion. Also the benefit of more Ram allocation (This is for W8 and Windows 10 so pointed at W7 users). Having change for no reason is mentioned a lot. But in contrast being up to date with the latest available improvements counters that...there is a reason.
