  1. "Listening to a device" on the manage sound devices window, can I evesdrop on a virtual...

I have an Amateur radio software application running on Window 10 that operates a software defined radio. That SDR radio has a dedicated external sound card. That sound card handles the I and Q signals from the SDR radio. I am also running a digital mode application at the same time which generates an FT8 mode signal. I am using virtual audo cables to connect the two applications and transfer audio between the FT8 app and the app running the SDR radio.

What I want to do is listen to either the FT8 app or the SDR app. I have gone into the sound device window and have clicked the "listen to this device" check box on the virtual audo cable and specified that I want to use a third, external soundcard to listen on. Every time I do this I loose the audio output to the transmitter on the SDR radio.

Does the "listen to this device" option allow one to evesdrop on the device or does it route that sound out of that device and into the listening souncard?

What does "listen to this device" really do and can I use it this way?

    :)

  3. Windows sound issue: no playback devices, drivers good!

If you haven't yet, maybe try this:

Boot into safe mode and go into device manager. Right click on and uninstall each of the following (If present):
    Audio Codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture Drivers
    Media Control Devices
    Audio Controller
    Video Codecs
and anything else that my be listed under sound devices. Also click on "View", "Show hidden devices" and see if there are any exclamation marks. If so, uninstall them also and then reboot into normal mode. Windows should detect the devices and automatically reinstall them.

I'd try that before reinstalling just for grins. Reinstalling as you know is a pain in the a*s!*Smile "Listening to a device" on the manage sound devices window, can I evesdrop on a virtual... :)
