There's nothing in the drive and states it has 450MB of space, almost as if it's a recovery partition. I cannot assign the drive letter to another drive on disk management as it doesn't exist on there however, the letter does not show up as if it's already in use. I've tried using mountvol /r, but this doesn't do anything. I've tried multiple restarts. Command prompt states there is a HDD there and that it's running fine, so I'

  2. Recovering Local Disk

Thank you for your quick response.

It could be a compatibility issue with the latest update and your local disk. We suggest updating your disk driver. Follow these steps:

    • On the Start, type Device Manager.
    • Locate and select Disk drives.
    • Right-click on your disk drive, select Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab and choose Update Driver.
    • Once done, click OK.

Update us with the outcome so we can provide further assistance.

  3. Help! External device Not working, shows up as local disk, freezes PC

I have an external drive with lots of important files. Suddenly it just stops working. When plugged in it shows up as a local disk without the capacity bar. RIGHT CLICKING does NOT work, and as soon as i do that windows explorer freezes. Disk management
does not work (shows loading indefinitely) until i unplug the disk. As soon as i unplug disk, everything is normal. Chkdsk also shows absolutely nothing, as if disk isnt even there.

and yes, i have tried plugging into other PCs and same thing happens. The exact same problem here: https://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/371491-external-hdd-showing-local-disk.html ,
except this one got randomly fixed by luck. I guess i may have to contact geek squad, but thats expensive.

    please help me! Thanks
