  1. Local NIC pings itself even after disconnecting the cable

I am using windows 10, I connect the ethernet cable into NIC port and ping the local NIC i.e. itself and pings successfully. But when I remove the cable disconnect, it still pings the same IP.

Although in the previous version such as the Windows XP, it doesnt used to ping itself after disconnecting the cable from the NIC port.

Kindly help me in this situation ASAP.

    :)

Local account - as before - disconnect NIC cable

    Hi there

as before (Win 8 / 8.1) if you want a LOCAL account simply during the setup phase just disconnect the NIC cable (or if on a VM detach the virtual NIC. Then go back a step and it will then prompt you for a local user.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet.

    Cheers

  3. Multiple NIC, ping failure

    Hi there,

strange issue. I have tested new (2) servers that comes with 2 NIC, running Windows Server 2016. Details as below..

    #Server1

    NIC1: 172.16.101.12 (vlan 101) - I dont define gateway

    NIC2: 172.16.102.12 (vlan 102) - I dont define gateway

    #Server2

    NIC1: 172.16.101.13 (vlan 101) - I dont define gateway

    NIC2: 172.16.102.13 (vlan 102) - I dont define gateway

Those NICs connected to switches and on different Vlan (as stated). Without setting the vlan on the NIC properties, the ping works well. The problem start when I set the vlan on the NIC properties. Ping to subnet 101 works perfectly but if I ping subnet
    102, I got destination unreachable.

Is this something to do at gateway? or it is something to do at vlan tagging? The switch port is in Trunk Mode. Kindly help me with this puzzle..

Local NIC pings itself even after disconnecting the cable

Windows 10 local IP doesn't work if network cable is disconnected

My local LAN which includes my laptop is setup as a static network. I have noticed that when the network cable is disconnected on the laptop I can't ping the laptop from itself. The VMs which are also on the laptop cannot ping the laptop's address from their local bridged addresses.
I can't remember having this problem on Windows 7 and earlier. Is there some fault on my setup or is that the way Windows 10 itself is designed?
