Windows 10: Local user not showing on login screen even though the user file is still there

Hi so yesterday, I updated my pc using my local user account. Today when I went to go back on it it popped up with the “hello, let’s get things started for you” then my local user was nowhere to be found only my administrator account. I have tried recovering my pc from yesterday and that doesn’t work. I went on my administrator account and the user file is still there.

How to display multiple local user accounts at login screen?

Hi johngalt, thank you for you suggestion: I did enable 'Enumerate local users on domain-joined computer', however the result remained identical. The login screen just shows the last user logged in and the 'Other' option ...

 

Local user disappeared frin login options after upgrade

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I was unable to fix the issue. Here are my steps:

• I've uninstalled the last 3 updates (the ones from september):
  
  • however, they keep getting reinstalled:
    

• I've added two new users: one from the GUI, the other as you suggested in step 2:
  
  • They are listed under users;
    
• I've also booted in safe mode just to check.
  

I still have no way to login other than with the main account. No local users are available at login or when I go to start menu and click on my user.

Please advise

 

Not able to login to the system after changing the Registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE local Policies and Local User not showing up on login screen

Hi, I have purchased a new Lenovo Thinkpad for one of our team members. Accordingly a local user was created by the Admin user (myself). However, at login time, this user was not getting listed (and instead only an "Other user" option was available besides the Admin user.)

To address this, while browsing through possible solutions in online forums, I came across instructions, which edited the Policies for Windows through Registry edit to change the value of a parameter for 'dontdisplaylastusername" to "1" (from the previous default of "0"). However, after making the change, on restarting the laptop, it only shows "Other user" to login, and no sign of the Admin User. As I don't know this "Other user" username or password, I am stuck in a situation that I can't even login the machine now.

Kindly assist with the following:

1) to be able to login back as the Administrator and 2) Be able to resolve the original issue of the system showing the Local User on the login screen.
