Windows 10: Local videos taking awhile to load after update to 22H2

Hi, I am currently experiencing an issue wherein videos that are saved locally takes awhile to load in Photos or any Windows built-in apps. This happened after updating my Win11 to 22H2, and currently running the latest build.Once I open a video, it will open in Photos/Media Player/Movies & TV, but a spinning circle will come and would take around 20-30 seconds before the video plays.VLC works fine.

Well that's why I asked. Mine is on SSD and takes 11 seconds. Your list of games will not appear if it has not checkd for updated suggested settings for awhile until it checks.

When it says it is refreshing the game list, it is checking, because NVIDIA periodically updates suggested settings. Plus it will look for those for new games you have installed.

So, the less it is run, the slower it will be.

 

How to get the Windows 10 2022 Update version 22H2 Win Update

If you can't install it from windows update you can try to install it manually, it's the same KB5015684 obtained with windows update.

Videos taking too long to load after using Miracast

About a month ago I've noticed a problem with my laptop: videos take 30-60 seconds to load, as opposed to earlier they loaded almost instantly (I've a new laptop with good specs & great internet connection). The issue persists regardless where the video is played from (online videos in internet browser, any website; or locally stored video, .mp4 and .mkv affected, haven't checked other formats) and regardless of which video player I use (VLC, Windows Movies or WMP).

The videos started taking forever to load on Windows 10 and since I haven't managed to fix the issue, I've done a clean install of Windows 11 last week, which fixed it. At first I didn't know what caused the issue, but yesterday I connected my laptop to a TV (to a Samsung Smart TV, via Miracast) and the issue reemerged (now on Windows 11).

My guess is that connecting to a second display via Miracast changes some setting which now makes videos load abysmally slow (when not in projection mode). The issue completely disappears then I connect to the TV. Issue disappears as soon as I press connect to a display, even while the connection to TV is still loading.

It's also definitely not a hardware issue, as I'm dual booting Ubuntu on the same laptop, on which videos play without any issue whatsoever.

Anyone have any idea which settings I should try to fiddle with to try and fix the issue?

Troubleshooting steps I've done so far:

1. Restarted the laptop
   
2. Updated both iGPU and dedicated GPU drivers
   
3. Disabled hardware acceleration (on Firefox and VLC)
   
4. Ran built-in Windows video playback troubleshooter (found no issues)
