Local VM's no longer able to be RDP'ed

For over a year, without fail, I've had multiple locally hosted HyperV VM's that I have never had an issue connecting to using Remote Desktop. Now, it seems with Win10 21H2 update, I can no longer use Remote Desktop to connect to them and now have to use the crappy built in num-locks turning off "Connect" built into Hyper-V Manager. I should mention that this is a work laptop that is connected to the company network via VPN software this has never prevented local RDP connections before. When I do use the built in "Connect" I am able to ping the host machine, I can browse files on the host ma

RDP Will no longer login to Windows 7 VM

I have a Windows 7 VM running an old application, because the application will not run on Windows 10. I have been RDP into it for months, and now it is giving me this error:

"Your password may have expired or the remote PC might not accept blank passwords"

    Here's my environment:

    Windows 2008r2 DC

    Windows 7 & 10 Pro PC's

VM is on Win10 Pro PC, Workgroup

Like I said, worked a month ago.

I attempted to RDP from Win7 Pro PC and received the same message. But the old RDP gives you more information, and I saw that I was trying to login with a domain user, instead of a local user. Changed the login to login as a local user and it connected right
    away.

I then tried to change the login on the Win10 PC to a local login and it still gives me the same error. Is the format of local login (Machinename\Username) different on the new RDP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Nested Webcam RDP Redirection

    Hello,

I have created a VM on my Windows 10 machine and have been able to RDP into the VM and my hardware webcam passes into the VM through RDP well. The camera shows up in the VM Device Manager as 'Remote Desktop Camera devices' > 'HOST-PC - HD WebCam'.

Next, on the VM that I am RDP'd into, I open another remote desktop connection to another external PC. I am able to connect to this PC by RDP fine, but the Webcam object does not pass through from the VM to the external PC. When I check in the Remote Desktop
Connection options, under the Local Resources tab, and click on 'More', I do not see the 'HOST-PC - HD WebCam' device listed under Video capture devices on the VM, even though it is listed in Device Manager.

Is there a way to get Windows to treat this redirected camera as a local camera so that it can be further redirected to a third machine?

Another way to ask my essential question - can you pass a camera through multiple nested RDP sessions?

    Thanks for your assistance,

    Aaron

  4. Local VM's no longer able to be RDP'ed

My VMs updated to 1903, not RDP is no longer working with protocol error

With my VMs updated to 1903 I am now unable to remote desktop into them.

I sometimes get a blue screen, mostly nothing, sometimes a 'please wait message'

Always end with a 'Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected'

This happens when trying to RDP from a PC or mobile. Tried all sorts of old suggestions found on the net to resolve but nothing works. This is extremely annoying and severely impacts my ability to work.

    Any suggestions welcome..
