Windows 10: Location Error in ONLY Win/Mic/Bing apps

I'm trying the community because the FIVE, count them FIVE Microsoft reps have not been able to permanently solve my problems - it's really one that rolls into two. This will be long, but hopefully, someone will be able to offer a solution that has not already been offered (I'll try to list everything that's been tried).

I've only had my computer for about a month, and from all available information to me - it was 100% new when I received it. It is a Lenovo IdeaPad 130, with a hard drive that's been upgraded to a 256 SSD instead of a regular hard drive. With the exception of two apps, I've downloaded everything else from the Microsoft Store; the two other apps were downloaded via the Edge browser, and I know that they are safe and reliable programs.​

Well, I don't know if I ever noticed until roughly 7 days ago, but the native Weather and Maps (therefore Cortana as well) tells me I'm in Lawrence, KS - specifically a residence on a specific street. Which I'm not putting here since I'm assuming some perfectly nice people live there. The address also shows up on my Live Account when I go to check my location history.​

I am not in Lawrence, KS.​

I've never BEEN to Lawrence, KS.​

I'm in Raleigh, NC.​

I use Google products to get directions and such generally, but it would be nice to not have to open a browser to do that since there are native Windows apps (updated via Store) that can do the job just as well when they work. I have no problem finding my correct location even when I use GoogleMaps via Edge. It's just specifically BingMaps and Windows Maps, and Windows Weather.​

In fact, my IP shows me as in Raleigh, and NONE of the other Windows machines on my network have this issue.​

Now, what have I tried or has been suggested?​

- going into location privacy settings​

- going into control panel​

- some sort of flash (1st rep)​

- upgrade to current Windows build (2nd rep)​

- fresh/reinstall of Windows 10 (2nd rep)​

- somewhat manually resetting the time setting (3rd rep)​

- determination that it's Bing services and Microsoft support can't do anything (4th rep)​

- suggestion to replace CMOS battery (4th rep)​

- going into services.msc, activating Windows Time (2nd rep?) and geolocation (4th rep)​

- flushing DNS cache​

- communicating with my ISP to get JUST my IP refreshed (suggestion of 4th rep), who told me to refresh my router​

- manually setting my zip/location in my Live Account settings in two places​

- seeing what bing maps tells me using Chrome, which is that it cannot find my location automatically (probably because there's a conflict)​

- seeing what Find My Device tells me, which is that my device is in Lawrence, KS​

- manually setting my time zone because at least then SOMETHING is right​

So all I know is that SOMEHOW, for SOME REASON, maps.windows.com and their location services have me in Lawrence and there's no way to fix it. I was given a lot of flowery promises that, YES INDEED, there was a permanent way to fix this and it's been completely unsatisfactory. Also yes, it WAS working initially - Windows was giving me lock screen pictures of Raleigh!​

Any help that is not a rehash of anything else I've tried... is welcome and greatly appreciated.​

Bing Maps location Error

Bing maps on my mango updated mozart on orange initially finds my location but as soon as i want directions this 'bing maps cant find your location at the moment. try again later' msg pops up. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your response with the current update on the issue.

Lets try some more troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

I suggest you to reinstall the printer driver in compatibility mode and also try to check the apps list.



Step 1: I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver in compatibility mode. Check if it helps.

1. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘Properties’'.

2. Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the
computer and check if the issue persists.

Step 2: I suggest you to check if any Bing Sport app is present in the Apps list.

1. Click on Start Menu.

2. Then click on Settings.

3. Choose System.

4. Then click on Apps and features.

5. Check if any Bing Sport app is present in the app list or not.

USB Mic Problems.


The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.
