    Lock a stolen laptop by serial number? “Find My” lock is insufficient.


    My laptop was stolen. I see the serial in my Microsoft account and last location. Why can’t I lock the device/report the serial number as stolen to prevent it from ever being activated again? I see the serial in my devices which means Microsoft can too. It also won’t let me lock it in case it ever connects to the internet again like a iPhone. Not allowing a user to report a laptop serial number stolen is helping the thieves and the stolen laptop market!!

    Hi GregMD856,

    I am Dave, I will help you with this. community is just a user to user forum.

    If you had the 'Find My Device' option enabled on your laptop enabled, when you choose the option to lock the device, then the next time it appears on the Internet it will be automatically locked.

    Is your device a Microsoft device, like a Surface laptop or from another manufacturer?

    My laptop was stolen last night, when I'm going to my account lock it it's said "location disabled"

    Hello,my laptop (hp pavilion gaming 2019) was stolen last night, when I'm going to my account in windows 10 home to lock it its said "location disabled"
    my laptop protected by password by 4numbers on lock sreen (not bios)
    If they change the Ssd(Hdd) or install another windows, my laptop still can locate by this account or it's gone !!!

    also I tried to locate and lock it by police and they ask serial number, Is it my laptop serial ? 5CD93861GH
