Windows 10: Lock screen changes to default on startup

Hello! I've searched around for a solution for this bug but haven't found any luck yet.

I set a picture as my lock screen over a year ago, and haven't changed it since. A couple of weeks ago, the lock screen started changing to a default picture on start-up. It doesn't change in the settings, and if I lock my laptop the lock screen stays as my custom photo, so it's only after startup that it shows the default picture. Does anyone know a solution to this, or is it just a general bug? It's not particuarly a problem, it's just annoying! Thanks!

How to change startup lock screen?

Hi Nic,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that Lock screen image is same every time you login.

To change the image in the lock screen follow the steps:

• Right click on the desktop.
• Click on personalize.
• Select lock screen at the left pane.
• Change the background option as picture from the drop down.
• Then select the picture you want to save it as lock screen image from the default images or click on browse to select more images saved in your computer.

Can't change lock screen image upon startup

I can change the lock screen image from Settings > Lock Screen without any problems and when I lock the computer my intended lock screen image is the one I chose, but when I boot the computer up or sign out the lock screen image is always some default W10 image.

I'm using W10 Home with the latest updates. I have the background on the lock screen settings page as "picture".

I've read that there's actually two separate lock screens: a default/welcome lock screen and a user lock screen. I'm guessing the one on startup and after a sign out is the default/welcome lock screen, but I can't find how to change it.

 

Lock Screen keeps changing

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Windows Spotlight picks the photos from Bing and displays them in the lock screen. I understand that you have set a picture and it is getting changed automatically.

I suggest you to follow the steps to select the Picture that you want to be displayed on the lock screen. Please follow the steps mentioned below to set a Picture to lock screen:

1. Press and hold Windows + I key on the keyboard to open settings.
   
2. Click on Personalization.
   
3. Click on Lock screen.
   
4. Click on the drop down under Background and select
   Picture.
   
5. Click on Browse and select the picture that you want to set.
