  1. Lock Screen to Logon Credentials not working as desired

The recent upgrade(s) of my Windows 10 Pro sees Version 1709 and OS Build 16299.19 loaded. My original settings of not seeing the lock screen picture not appearing on the logon screen has seen the lock screen picture not being displayed at all, instead it is just a plain colour. However if I allow the logon screen to appear on top of the lock screen picture, then the lock screen picture is visible. A change the picture, even to one of the defaults, it still doesn't work as desired.

Suggestions to resolve this issue welcomed.

    :)

  3. "Some settings are hidden or managed by your organization"

I selected Do Not Display the Lock Screen - Disabled as well as Prevent Changing the Lock Screen and Logon Image.

    This worked for me.

    Hi trolleybus.

Please fill in System Specs, include Windows 10 version and build number at

Are you using this tutorial to make the changes or are you doing something with a tweaker program or registry edit?

Change Lock Screen Background in Windows 10

If I'm reading this correctly .... You want the lock screen of your choice to appear. Then when you go to login you want the image to disappear and I guess just have the User Accounts and the Password Box, correct.

  5. Yes indeed, by using an inbuilt feature found in Settings. If you go to Settings >> Lock Screen and scroll down there is a switch for "Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen". By default it is set to ON. Until the latest round of MS Updates the choice of OFF would see the sign-on screen as a separate page, i.e. without the chosen background picture.

Now if you select OFF the background picture does not appear at all. So what am I to make of this, is it a Windows bug or something wrong with my PC? I am inclined to go with the bug theory because every PC I have updated means that this feature no longer works.

So how do we go about restoring this feature?

  6. You likely have found a bug, if I'm reading you correctly. Other PC's that you updated are doing this as well, correct?

If so use the Feedback Hub to report it. Who knows, maybe next month cumulative update will address.

  7. Yes. After all the latest patches have been applied, the issue as reported is present.

Interestingly if you fail to complete the logon credentials, then after a period of time the logon screen closes and displays a page with the time and date AND the selected background picture and everything works as in the past. Following a shut down and later boot up we are back with the "bug" present.

Care to select this option to see if the problem is replicated on your PC?

I have exactly the same issues (posted it in my own Thread).
I have upgraded two PCs (Home) and one Surface Pro 3 (Professional). All of them show the same bug. Always this bl... Mountain Lake appears, doesn't matter if you select another picture from MS or your own one.
If you just Logoff, sometimes your selected picture appears, but after a reboot, the lake is back.

Lock Screen to Logon Credentials not working as desired

The thread you linked to unfortunately does not solve the problem for me. I will try to better explain the issue that OP is having, which I believe is exactly like mine:

I set the Lockscreen via GPO by setting a registry key:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization
REG_SZ: LockScreenImage Value: C:\Windows\Web\Screen\defaultBackgroun0.jpg (this is a custom file I copy over during OSD)

I also set the following key which should disable the Lockscreen image on the logon screen, giving only the accent color:
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System
    REG_DWORD: DisableLogonBackgroundImage Value: 1

These settings should be for the SYSTEM as well as the user. So that when the computer boots up the default lockscreen image is now the one I set, and no image for the logon screen (user credentials prompt).

The problem is that when the system boots, the lockscreen is now just the accent color and so is the logon screen.

If I login, and lock the machine, the lockscreen image now shows up correctly and the logon page only has the accent color, which is what I want, but I want it for the system boot as well, just like in 1703 and 1607.

If I flip the value for DisableLogonBackgroundImage to 0 on reboot the Lockscreen image shows up, but now it ALSO shows up for the logon screen which I don't want.

I have tried the animate windows toggles in performance, I have deleted the folder under ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18\ReadOnly\LockScreen_P

I have tried deleting the above registry from the thread linked in the two posts above, I have tried flipping to a different DEFAULT lockscreen image that comes with the OS nothing goes. The only thing I can think of is the fact that there is a registry key that is conflicting here...

I can't upgrade our work machines until I solve this....

1703 and 1607 worked without a problem, as soon as I upgraded my machine and two test machines to 1709 this became an issue *Sad

Thread that shows the problem: Windows 10 Version 1709-Blank Lock Screen - Microsoft Community

Basically identical to this scenario, they suggest flipping the toggle, but I do not want the logon screen to have the lockscreen image as its our company logo and it clashes terribly with those entry boxes.

  14. I think you are going to have to hope MS has prioritized this bug and has a fix. Tomorrow there is an update coming out so just maybe it will be fixed.

Normally people should not have to delete registry keys to get this to work as advertised.
