Windows 10: Locked out of device/Stuck in safe mode

Hello! I was attempting to update my Asus Windows 10 machine as it has failed to successful update since 2017. One of the Microsoft guides that I was following instructed me to open msiconfig and change a setting to start my machine in safe mode. I am now completely locked out of my machine as I apparently cannot recall my admin password, nor can I take the machine out of safe mode. I also cannot start my machine in safe mode w/ internet.

Previously I would log into my device with the PIN that I set up when I purchased the machine in 2016. From what I can recall, I do not sign into my Microsoft account when logging into my device, so I do not have the option to reset my password as I had not set up a recovery USB prior to this problem. I do feel a little silly as I thought it was weird to change msiconfig settings, but didn't think much of it since I was following a Microsoft guide. I'm not sure I can find and share the exact guide I was following since it's in the browsing history of my now-locked device.


Additionally, I have purchased third party software from 4winkey that claims to be able to reset/recover this lost password, but so far all it has done is given me access to the UEFI screen to add a new password upon booting the machine, and attempting to boot the third party iso has resulted in a loop reboot machine with disk inserted -> remove disk and reboot -> reboot machine with disk inserted ->


What options do I have to recover my device? I plan on taking my machine to a repair center tomorrow but I would prefer to save a little money and fix this myself if I can.

Stuck in safe mode in windows 10

Safe mode is intended to help fix most, if not all problems within an operating system, it's not good if we got stuck on it. To correct this, we suggest that you follow the steps below to exit out of Safe mode:

• Open Run command by pressing Windows key + R
  keys on the keyboard and type msconfig in the command box and press
  Enter.
• Under General tab, put a check on Normal Startup option.
• Reboot the system and check if the changes are effective.

Stuck in safe mode

Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10  


I am stuck in Safe Mode in spite of following all the suggested steps to go back to Normal Startup - Like opening file location of msconfig.exe & running as Administrator. The computer I am trying to get out of safe mode has just been updated from Windows 7.
