Windows 10: locked out of HP notebook

Was just setting up my new HP Pavilion x 2-10-n107a notebook/computer when I finished up locked out.No keys were responding so I clicked on :Other user: and everything worked ok until I came to switch on again and when asked for other user password and name I had not a clue.Help please.

Is this the latest Fall Creators Update Version 1709 which has the ability to reset the password from a link below the password box? If so I'd pursue that first.

Next try enabling the Hidden Administrator account to log into and set up a new Local Administrative Account to sign-into, move files over and set up, using whatever method given here that works:

To do this you'll need to access a Command Prompt in repair mode by one of these methods:

If necessary you can create Windows 10 Installation Media on another PC:

Insert media, boot it by powering up PC while pressing the BIOS Boot Menu Key:

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered. If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

After it loads, on second screen, choose Repair Your Computer, then Advanced Troubleshoot Options for Command Prompt.

If this fails from the Troubleshoot Options try a Reset, saving files.

If this fails choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at drive selection screen delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, click Next to let it create needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof. Follow the illustrated

Locked out of Notebook - Unable to gain access into computer

This is my 87 year old father's new notebook we bought him recently as his 10 year old HP died. Windows 10 is installed on the computer. Although I customized his home screen with only the icons he needed, i.e., his bank, stock brokerage, etc., but he has
now gotten brave and is venturing out and changing things. The first thing was the appearance of his screen and different colors of font, etc.

The latest thing is after I was at his home last Monday evening is that he is completely locked out of the computer. The only thing that happens when you turn on the notebook is an icon that looks like the one for "Accounts". Underneath that is his name
"Al Mayes" and a box for him to enter his password. I've tried entering his password using his wireless keyboard as well as the keyboard on the notebook and neither will let me in. Can you please help me?

 

I presume that leaving the fields blank did not work?

 

Quite right it failed to work.

 

When you are at the login screen there should be a power icon at the lower right of the screen. Click on this and then hold down the shift key and click Restart. This should get you to a screen where you can select troubleshoot and Advanced Options to reset or repair your laptop.
