Windows 10: Locked out of important folder on external drive

I locked a folder (sensitive material) on an external hard drive using a computer that I since reformatted. Currently using a new desktop and am now unable to access it.

The message: "You don't currently have permission to access this folder." "Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder. - *I click continue* - "You have been denied permission to access this folder." "To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab.

And then I don't have permissions to change anything in the security tab.

External Hard Drive

Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

How to import photos from folder (not an external device)


Is there a way to import photos from a folder? In other words, I would like to us the import photo feature commonly found in picture editing applications, but would like to point to a folder on my desktop (c:\ drive) rather than a camera or external device. The reason I want to do this is because I want to group the photos in folders by date taken and have then moved to my "Pictures" folder along with all my other photos. In the past, I used Google Picasa 3 to do this, but it is no longer supported and I would like to find another way. Any suggestions?
