Windows 10: Locked out of laptop after changing verification number on microsoft account

I logged into Microsoft after going through forgot passwords process and then noticed that the verification phone number was outdated. I requested to change the number to my current one.The next time I booted up my laptop the PIN did not work and I seem to be locked out of my laptop for 30 days. I understand why my Microsoft account is frozen for 30 days but I do not understand why I can access my laptop at all. I am a photographer and now cannot access my work for 30 days.I have been using my laptop with no issues for a long time not logged into Microsoft. It seems that trying to change

Cannot access HP Laptop after it asked me to reset my pin and the account's phone number was outdated

Today my HP laptop had asked me to change my pin before I logged into it, but two step verification was on for (I had no idea this was on and assumedly it was turned on when I created the account without me knowing). I no longer use this phone number, so I successfully changed the phone but now it locked me out of anything that requires two step verification for 30 days until it decides the phone number is good, including changing my pin and thereby locking me out of my laptop for the next thirty days. Can someone help with this.
