    So my son either accidentally locked himself out of his account. He has an email attached to it and doesn't know the information for that either. I'm thinking they're the same password or he honestly just didn't keep track of what he was using as a password. My account is the Admin and I'm hoping there's a way we can get in his account and unlock it. I want to see what he's downloaded or done on it and maybe then delete and make an account for him. So please if anyone knows a way I can do this it'd be very much appreciated

    Hi Pub Fan,

    You can create a new user account on your computer and set is as an administrator. Follow the steps provided on this

    page
    . Once you have added a new administrator account, you can change the account type of the original user profile to standard. You can also remove the password for the original account using the new one. Here are the steps:

    • Sign in to the new user account.
    • Go to Control Panel.
    • Open User Accounts.
    • Click on User Accounts.
    • Click on Manage another account.
    • Select the old user profile.
    • Select Change the password.
    • Without typing anything in the password fields, click on Change password.
    You will not lose any passwords for your internet sites after applying the changes.

  3. Standard user account created shows Administrator on Windows 10

    Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • Are you logging in using a Microsoft account on any of the created two user accounts?
    • Have you created 2 local account with administrative privileges on the computer?


    Please be informed that Local user account as well as
    Microsoft user account
    can be considered as Standard user account. A
    Standard user account is the user account which do not have any administrative privileges.



    It is possible to create two or more accounts with administrative privileges on computers running with Windows 10 operating system.



    If you want to convert one of the user account as a standard account, I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.



    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Control panel in the search box and select the top most search result.
    • Select User Accounts and click on Change account type
      from the window.
    • Click on the user account and select Change the Account type option.
    • Select Standard and click on Change account type
      button from the window.
    • Close the window and check if the changes are effective.

    User Account Control - Remove Standard User

    I'm extremely sorry for the inconvenience. I will help you regarding this.

    I request you to login to built-in admin account and check if you are able to remove the standard user account.

    Steps to Enable Built-In Administrator account.


    • Press Windows key + X.

    • Select Command prompt (Admin).

    • Type “net user administrator /active:yes”.

    • Once you’re done, you can access your built-in administrator account by logging off your current account anytime.
