  2. Dizzy/Eye Strain from Display on Windows 10 or Thinkvision Monitor?

I recently received a new work Thinkvision monitor and Lenovo X390 laptop with Windows 10 on it. After staring at the screen on the monitor for a few hours I start feeling extremely dizzy, my eyes start hurting, and my vision starts to get a little blurry
to the point where I am unable to look at the screen anymore. Has anyone experienced this with the settings from Windows 10? No matter what I do it seems that I can't make it "feel" right to my eyes. I never had this issue with my old laptop/monitor with
an older Windows version. I'm trying to determine if it's from Windows 10 or the new monitor/laptop. Anyone experience this with either the software or hardware?

Hi Katie. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 10 year Windows MVP here to help you.

The settings that would apply are more in the monitor than Windows, but let's look at all of them to see if we can help find you a happy medium.

First in the Monitor you want to adjust brightness, contrast/sharpness to find a happy medium after trying all modes, all settings that apply to Display. On my new Samsung curved monitor I had to turn the brightness down almost by half, reduce the contrast,
    try several different modes.

Next cover everything in Windows that could apply:

    1) Update the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

if this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here:

    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here:
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

    2) Adjust the Screen Resolution in Settings > System > Display so that it's as sharp as you want, keeping in mind that you can adjust object size in the next step so it can go smaller to get it sharper.

    3) Create a Custom scaling in the same place to make objects large enough so you can sit back from the screen to read them. I start at sharpest resolution with a 25% scaling that still fits my 27" monitor, then fine tune it to 113-117% is a smaller montor's
    sweet spot.

Remember that in addition to scaling you have zoom controls in all web pages and many other windows by pressing Ctrl key while rolling the mouse wheel slowly forward or back, or tapping + or - keys. This works to frame the page in the Window.

    4) Another thing that can help relieve the eyes is Windows 10's new night light in Settings > System > Display. You can try it in the day time. Research shows that a slight rose tint reduces eye strain greatly. You can adjust the strength and timing as you
    need it.

Personally what I did that helped the most was get a larger monitor so that I could sit back from the screen to view it more like a TV than a tablet or book. Reducing brightness, contrast and sharpness, adding rose colored glasses can also help greatly.

WebMD has a good article on eye stain including color temperatures here:

    https://www.webmd.com/eye-health/prevent-digita...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Dizzy/Eye Strain from Display on Windows 10 or Thinkvision Monitor?

    Hi KATIE777_701

I am an independent advisor here to help

while I have never heard of this specifically being an issue with Windows 10, I certainly have heard that some people experience such things depending on the settings of the monitor such as brightness, contrast, etc.

Have you tried using any of the windows ease of access settings for the visually impaired?

Or using the night light settings for Windows 10
