  1. Logging in to my MS account changed user name and password. Can I recover

    The first time this happened was nearly a disaster. I was using my normal windows local user account, but kept getting messages that I wasn't logged into OneDrive. Somehow I logged into my MS account and the during the login process MS changed my account password. Nearly didn't recover from that, as the password ended up being different than my MS account. Point is, MS processes and SW changed the password I needed to use to log into my laptop. I was able to recover by finding the PW that was used.

    Anyway, this Sunday I was on my wife's computer. My goal was to replace her office 2010 with the office 365 subscription that I bought. During the process, I logged into my MS account on the web and tried to download Office 356. Two issues

    1 The office site was down. MS tech service suggested trying again later after they'd fixed the problem on MS' end. I did.

    2 More perniciously, MS assumed that when I logged into my MS account that I wanted it to change the current account I was on my wife's, let's call her "Sally" to MY MS account name "JSmith". And it also changed the password to my account password.

    The pernicious part is that in all this, it assigned my wife's user directory c:/users/Sally to the user now called JSmith.

    I need to have an account, Sally, that points to the user directory and profiles now in c:/users/Sally. I can live with a JSmith account on the computer, but I need for that account to point to the directory/profiles at c:/users/JSmith.

    Since the JSmith account is apparently not just local, I can't change that name. Can I change that account to local, and cut ties with the MS account? That would allow me to rename it to Sally. Then I could just create a new account, JSmith normally and the new directory and profile would be created automagically.

    What a horrible system: it changes user names and passwords without even telling you.

    :)

    How to change admin user account name?

    Ah so just ignore the 'Brink' and use the 'Brink2' as the example

    And step 1 and 2, I was confused at that part also.
    For example, my user account is called for e.g 'wizzle'
    If I want to change the name to 'wizzle2', and by following steps 1 and 2;
    -I sign out of my MS account (step 1)...and then sign in?

    I understand the steps 3 onwards but steps 1 and 2 with the sign out/in was confusing :?
