Windows 10: Logging in without disrupting Default user

Hello,We have a domain environment and every user logs in into his machine using his own credentials, windows prompts by default the last logged in user name for inserting the password after pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, we would like to start making some more maintenance during downtimes or lunch breaks by logging in with the "domain admin" but it causes windows to change the default user from the original machine username to the "admin account" username, since it seems like it's very difficult for end users to use the Other User button on the bottom left it causes way too much trouble and wasted ti

Domain users immediately logged out

We got it figured out.

Below is the guide my boss made to fix the issue:

After certain Windows updates, standard users (users who are not members of Elevated Group) cannot log into machines that they have not previously logged into. They input their credentials properly but are immediately signed out.

The cause for this issue is that the Default User profile is corrupted by the update, and the new user cannot create a profile, because the system cannot use the Default profile template to properly create a proper registry key. One will be created, but
it is corrupted.

To fix this issue follow these instructions:

• Log into the affected machine as either local or domain admin
• Go to C:\Users
• If you cannot see the Default user folder click “View” and check the box next to “Hidden files”. Be sure to uncheck this box when you are finished with all other steps.
• Rename the Default folder to “Default.bak”
• Go to C:\Windows.old\Users (If there’s no Windows.old folder use the backup Default folder in this share to complete the following steps ****see below****)
• Copy the Default user folder.
• Go back to C:\Users and paste the Default folder there.
• If a folder has been created for the affected user, delete it.
• Deselect the check box next to “hidden files”.
• Right click over the Windows icon and select Run.
• In the “Open” window type “regedit.exe” to open the registry editor.
• Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
• Find the registry entry of the affected user (should have a .bak extension) and delete it.
• After a restart of the machine the user should be able to log in successfully

 

New Account/User Issues

Hi,

When you create a new user account, Windows uses the Default user profile as a template to construct the files for the newly created user account. You might be experiencing issues creating new accounts due to a corrupt Default profile. To
resolve the issue, we suggest reinstating the Default folder in the
Users directory by following these steps:

• Log in as an administrator.
• Open the C:\Users folder using Windows Explorer.
• Rename the Default user profile folder to Default.OLD.
• Download a zip of C:\Users\Default from a Windows 10 installation that doesn't have this problem.
  
• Unzip the non-corrupt Default profile into C:\Users.
• Try logging in to the new user account and check if the problem is resolved.

Current active users that are friends

The other reason I suggested this is that users can add characters to their username that are not alphanumeric (e.g. user*). This confuses things somewhat when looking at the list.
