Windows 10: Long Existing, 'On Screen Keyboard' Focus Behavior A discussion. Not a solution.

This is a post about my impressions of the On Screen Keyboard's behavior of refocusing on the previous application or window that the OSK was used on, prior to it being minimized, when the intent is to type into the currently focused window. I post no 'solution' to this behavior as it is my belief that this is either a designed feature, or perhaps a programming oversight, or perhaps an unintended consequence of, or necessary compromise in, OS design.Disclaimer: I am not a software engineer. Disappearance of Windows on-screen keyboard when focus set on text input field

HI

I have the following situation in my application :

1. Setup in my Surface Device (Windows 10)

i. Tablet Mode is set Off

Settings -> System -> Tablet Mode : selected 'Use Desktop Mode'

ii. Display of windows keyboard is set On:

Settings -> Devices -> Typing : Touch keyboard - "Show the touch keyboard when not in tablet mode and there's no keyboard attached" is set
ON​

2. In one of the screen,

• when focus set on text field, windows keyboard is apears for a few milliseconds and disappears.
  

Why is the keyboard disappearing ? How to stop it ?

• when focus set on numeric field, I am showing my custom numeric keypad, but windows keyboard is automatically displayed. Two keypads is annoying to the customer. How can I stop displaying of windows keyboard ?

Please provide a solution.

 

On-screen keyboard

Hi Chris, my name is Max and I'm an independent advisor.

I suggest that you run the automatic troubleshooter to diagnose and fix issues that you can encounter with your On-Screen Keyboard. Do the following steps, please:

Start menu -choose Settings (the gear icon)

Select Update & Security, and then select Troubleshoot.

Find Keyboard on the list.

Click on it, and click the ‘Run the troubleshooter’ button.

 

Edge - new tab focus behavior

Is there a way to let Edge focus on the address bar once I open a new tab?

I experience the following behavior:

1. Open Edge
   
2. Ctrl + t (new tab)
   
3. Type e.g. www.myfavouriteaddress.com
   

Issue: The typing is ignored since the focus is not on the address bar.

Unfortunately I haven't found anything. Microsoft didn't answer on that.

I know I work around it like that, but I'm looking for a setting which let me change the default Ctrl + t behavior:

1. Open Edge
   
2. Ctrl + t (new tab)
   
3. Ctrl + l (focus on address bar)
   
4. Type e.g. www.myfavouriteaddress.com
