Windows 10: Looking for a good desktop icon 'management' program- to remember the layout of icons when...

Hey all,

Thought I'd reach out and try here. I have a laptop with a small screen that I often use to plug into a monitor with very large screen. And whenever I go from one to the other, my desktop icons, which I usually have layed out in a reasonbly organized way, spazz out all over the screen in a helter skelter manner.

So I'm looking for a program, ideally freeware, that works to keep the desktop in generally the same order that it is when I switch from one monitor to another. When I switch from on-the-go to docked.

I've tried a couple desktop 'restore' programs. DesktopOK comes to mind.

But so far I've seen some negatives: - They also struggle with monitors of different sizes. They try to move the icons to the exact location they were before. (Ideal would be if the program kept the icons in the same shape/layout, general position as they were before, just accounting for the smaller area.)

  Desktops have to be saved and reloaded. (Something on the fly would be ideal)

  They struggle with newly added icons since the last save.
  

So... any suggestions? It really shouldn't be this complicated to keep a desktop organized... I understand some of the difficulties the system encounters when changing sizes... but really, is there no decent workaround?

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

 

Icons Layout Backup


Hi! I wonder if there is a way or a program that allows to save the desktop icons positions and layout. I don't mean that I have an issue with icons not preserving their position after a reboot, I mean I would like to have a backup in order to restore my layout quickly, for example after restoring the icon cache ecc...

I remember that, in the XP times, there was a dll (well, two: one for saving and one for restoring). Any suggestion?
