Windows 10: Looking for an alternative to Logitech's software for my C920 webcam

I am having the same issues with my C 920, but, it seems to work just fine with Skype. I can go into Skype settings to set up Video and it works just fine. I can startup the Logitech software and it is OK. If I click on a quick capture > Photo it crashes. If I click on quick Capture and can manage to switch from Photo to Video before it crashes, it works just fine for video. Is that similar to everyone else's experience?

 

Yup, sounds about right for me Steve. My C920 works fine on any other software, but Logitech.

 

I have Cyberlink You Cam which I have never installed. I was going to try that but am hoping for a fix soon. If not I may try it and see if You Cam is any better.

 

From what I read, MS knows about this problem, and is going to fix it in a future update....sometime. *Rolleyes
Logitech also knows about this too.

 

I have Cyberlink You Cam 5 as OEM installed by HP and dl'd one update from You Cam. Always worked perfectly with 8.1 and 10. Only thing is the nag to upgrade each time you open it and the extra created folder in Documents. Worth trying if you can't get Logitech going properly. Good Luck

I just submitted a support ticket. I told them I was knew they were aware of the problem and asked for a fix. I don't really expect one, but maybe the old adage of 'the squeaky wheel gets fixed first' will apply if enough people put in support tickets. Hopefully they will fix it just to shut us up.

 

I have a 64-bit version of Windows 10 and after applying the two registry entries noted in the article, the Logitech Webcam software did not immediately crash with the Launcher_Main issue. The change did allow me to switch from the default photo mode to the video mode which did allow the camera to activate and display my image in the application frame. However when I would switch back from video mode to photo I still experienced the Launcer_Main issue.

 

That's pretty much what mine has done all along.

 

Yes, but for some, having the Video capability might just be enough of a workaround for some people. I just posted my experience with this workaround on Logitech's Community Forum where I initially posted a problem report regarding my C920 failure and there were a LOT of very angry people that started following that thread and many of them needed the video capability for their businesses. At this point, a partial fix is better than no fix at all. *chuckle

 

Was your different before? Mine has been that way since the upgrade.

 

I don't think you needed to do both, they were just 32bit, and 64bit enable and disable.

I did the 64bit and get the same thing you get, I think skype users will benefit,

I did get a standard reply from them on my support ticket, check drivers in device manager...

Derek, mine was exactly like that as Photo is the default position. But, if I was quick enough and could switch to video before the crash, it would work fine. It is still that way today. I have done nothing to it other than re download and install the Logitech software.

 

OK, you were quicker than me then. All that reg file did was make it so I could get in there and switch to video, switch it back and it crashes though.

I still think Logitech needs to check the software, but it looks like they are just going to wait on Microsoft.

Probably just end up getting a different software anyway.

 

I think you are right, they will just wait on Microsoft. The issue, as I understand it, is Microsoft disabled H264 encoding, for a purpose. But that is what the C 920 uses. Now, why that affects a photo and not a video, I'm not sure. You would think the video would use the H264 more than a photo would.
