Windows 10: Looking for help – transferring Windows 10 OS to a new HDD

So I have a new laptop with Windows 10 installed on it , the Windows 10 OS is stored on an internal 500 GB 2.5 inch hard drive ( A )



I have removed the original internal 500 GB 2.5 inch hard drive from the laptop and I have now purchased a new 1TB internal 2.5 inch hard drive ( B ) . I want to transfer the original Windows OS that's stored on the original internal hard drive ( A ) to the new 1TB 2.5 inch hard drive ( B ).



Is there a way I can do the Windows 10 OS transfer from hard drive A to hard drive B without putting any of the hard drives back into the laptop - just to do the transfer?

Help with OS Transfer on a new build

Need some help figuring out what I need to do for a fresh build tomorrow. I will be moving off of my old CPU and mobo to a new X99 system. Right now I have my OS on a Sata SSD and want to transfer it onto a new NVME drive.

Some issues:

• I have a windows 10 upgrade from a RETAIL windows 7 license so I should have migration rights correct?
• I have 3 other non-OS drives so after I do the install with my old/ current Microsoft account will my fresh install of windows recognise those drives?

If you guys could shed some light on how to do this or advice please lend a hand. thanks!

 

Transfering OS from old HDD to new HDD

My old hdd is windows 10, but only has ~30gb left of storage and a broken sata cable receiver. Bought a 3TB hdd. Is there a way to transfer all the files and os system from the old to the new?

It seems like some sort of an OS confusion has happened with your secondary WD Black and I'm sorry to hear about that. *Frown
Maybe re-formatting it would help indeed as the community already mentioned. I'd suggest to take a look at this step-by-step how to partition and format an HDD: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=PYCoid
Keep in mind that this will wipe clean the drive, so you should backup all important data from the drive somewhere else.
I noticed from the screenshots that your HDD appears as Disk 0, this means that it's plugged in the primary SATA port where the SSD (as an OS drive) should be. Actually it is possible that because of this Windows cannot create the image there. Swap the ports of the SSD and the HDD, this might help as well.
