Windows 10: Looking for some help getting a pc hard drive formatted using my laptop

OK. I was given an old windows 7 computernot working it had a 1tb hard drive in it so I put it in a hp usb hard drive enclosure and connected to my laptop but i am unable to format it to use it. In disk management it pops up right away Virtual Disk Manager - Access Denied. It does show in disk manager as unknown and not initialized. I've tried changing the drive letter, I've tried using diskpart, I've tried to run chkdsk with no success. I was hoping someone could help me get this formatted

To assist you better, I like to know; have you tried formation the USB hard drive by
right clicking on the hard drive and select Format?

If you are unable to format the USB through above mentioned steps, then I suggest you to try formation the hard drive using diskpart command and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps.

1) Press Windows key + r, type cmd and hit
Enter.

2) Type diskpart, hit Enter.

3) Type List volume. (List of available drives will get listed).

4) Select Volume (#), #- number of the volume, which assigned to hard drive.

5) Type Format recommended. (It will start formatting your hard drive)

Thank you for your response with the current status of the issue.

To assist you better, please provide us the below information

• Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the external hard drive on the computer?
• Are you logged into the Administrator Account while assigning the driver letter to the external hard drive?

I recommend you to follow the steps below to update all the pending Windows updates and also try to reinstall the hard drive driver in the Device Manager. Check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to update all the pending Windows updates in the computer and check if it helps.

1. Click on Start Menu.

2. Then select Settings.

3. Choose Update & security >
Windows Update >Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your PC if required.

Step 2: I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall the Hard drive as suggested in the previous post. Also you can run Hardware and Device troubleshooter.

Step 3: Then try to boot the computer in safe mode and check if the hard drive is getting recgonized in it or not.

• Is it an external hard drive or internal hard drive?
• Are you trying to format and reinstall Windows 10?
• Are you facing any errors or issues on the PC due to the hard drive?

To format an external hard drive, you may refer to the steps below:

• Press Windows + E to open file explorer.
• Go to "ThisPC"
• Right click on the external hard drive and click format.
• Choose the settings you want (or keep them default) and click on Ok/Format.

Note: This will erase all the data on the hard drive and there is no way to get it back. Make sure you have the backup of all your data.
