  2. Moving files and setting from an old SSD with no OS to a new one that does have an OS

    Hi Meli,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

First: I am afraid that there is no Microsoft native tool or utility to copy the whole OS from a hard disk to another one, however, you can use a third-party tool like Macrium Reflect to copy the old OS to your current SSD.

Second: since you have removed the old SSD, you can transfer only your files from the old SSD to a new one by putting the old SSD to a hard disk enclosure and connecting it to your computer.

Third: If the old SSD still has OS on it, you can swap it with the new one and use Macrium Reflect.

I would suggest using a hard disk enclosure to transfer your files and set the Windows configuration manually like the old one.

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.

    Have a nice day

  3. New windows 10 installtion on New SSD - wont boot unless old SSD present

It seems you installed Windows while the both SSDs were connected. This would have caused your current problem. Maybe it is sufficient to do this:

    1. Launch the Disk Manager.
    2. Right-click drive C:, then mark it as "active".
    3. Shut down Windows
    4. Open the BIOS and tell it that the new SSD is the primary boot device.
    5. Disconnect the old SSD.
    6. Boot up normally.

If this does not work then you might have to do this:

    1. Disconnect the old SSD.
    2. Re-install Windows on the new SSD, using the Media Creation Tool.

looking to move my OS from a old ssd to a new one

New Windows 10 Installation on new SSD made old Windows 10 on Old SSD Unbootable

I can do this for the new and successful Windows 10 OS SSD installation that has successfully booted after I have reformatted the incorrectly installed new OS on the new SSD. I don't think I know how to do this for the old SSD Windows OS on the old SSD because it simply can't even boot up. (At least for now it still won't boot).

The new SSD with the new OS has been handed to my brother. I'll have to ask him to send me the screenshot based on the command window that you want to be entered.
