    Looking to update BIOS

Hi, I have an HP Elite 8000 sff PC running win10-1709.
It has major boot problems (about 3 to 4 min). I have tried everything under the sun except updating the BIOS.
It always tries to boot from the DVD. Switching to boot from the HDD does not work. The BIOS reverts back to DVD so I'd like to replace it but I cannot find a more recent version than HP Version 786G7 v01.02. from 2009.
Can someone help me finding a newer version?
    Thanks,
    Ed

    :)

  3. Someone PLEASE HELP!

I took a look at the changelog for the update, the BIOS update actually didn't patch the vulnerability and my computer was already had a UEFI BIOS before now. Also, I didn't back up my original BIOS and it uses a GUID Partition

    Looking to update BIOS

I can see 786G7 v1.07 Rev. A (from Sept 2010) on this page. Direct download link is this.

    Hope this helps...

The BIOS is not dependent on or related to the OS. It's used to manage hardware way before the OS is even loaded and doesn't care if the OS is Linux or Windows, let alone the version of Windows.

HP never provided the Elite 8000 SFF with Win 10 nor does HP support the use of Win 10 on it, hence why there's no Win 10 page. The download is an executable file that will, however, run in Windows 10.

    Hope this helps...

    Looking to update BIOS

RickC, thanks for the details, I learned something new today.
I downloaded and installed the 2015 BIOS and the boot seems now a bit faster, but not by much.
I also downloaded that log collector but haven't figured out how to start it.

These are some of the problems seen in the log files:
    A) The computer has been having BSOD but was unable to make dump files
    B) The RAM modules are mismatced. They should always be in pairs and have the identical SKU.
    C) The Windows drive always needs to have a minimum of 25 GB free space so that memory dump files are not deleted.
In general aim for 30 GB of free space in case you seldom check the free space. And in general the more free space the more optimal the performance.

    Perform the following steps:
    1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    4) chkdsk /scan
    5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    6) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > un-check load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)

    5) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)

    6) shutdown /r (you will reboot the computer so that it is in clean boot)

Evaluate the performance on your computer in clean boot during typical use.
Are the boots faster or slower?
Are the shutdowns faster or slower?

    7) Open Ccleaner > click windows tab > scroll down to system and advanced > post an image into the thread

    8) In the left lower corner search type: system or system control > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings
    a) > on the advanced tab under startup and recovery > click settings > post an image of the startup and recovery into the thread.
    b) > on the advanced tab under performance > click on settings > under performance options > click on the advanced tab > under virtual memory > click on change > post an image of the virtual memory tab into the thread

    9) Increase the free space on drive C so that there is > 30 GB free space.
