Windows 10: loop nVidia driver update; install and fail

Every time I start my PC, Windows tries to install an nVidia driver, and every time fails to do so. I like to stop this continuous loop. Everything on my PC works fine, the standard Windows updates never give problems and I am satisfied with the present nVidia driver.
Any possibility to tell Windows not to update the present driver?

Cumulative Updates KB3124262 and KB3124263 failed to install

I had this similar problem. I had to uninstall my Nvidia driver and software. After that the update succeeded with no problems and then re-installed the Nvidia software. My problem with this update (KB3124262) was solved. Now I am stuck with KB3135173.

Windows 10 NVIDIA Driver won't Install in Windows 7

Windows 10 Icon, "Invite to Install" in Windows 7 runs and fails with error message ... The NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT Graphics requires a Windows 10 Driver.

This I have downloaded from NVIDIA, but the Driver will not install in Windows 7, (error - incompatible with this version of Windows).

So I am in a loop, up against a brick wall !

How to proceed ?

Think you have to tell it in two places.

1) I think it is called GForce Experience. In any event it is with the Nvida programs. Tell it to stop downloading and or installing.

2) Windows. I used this process in V1607

Windows + R keys
Enter Sysdm.cpl
Click on Hardware tab
Click on Device Installation Settings
Click on No
A menu appears (first time) click Never Install driver software.
You may get a warning. Click the option that says I’ll take care of it (not exact words)

Not sure it works in V1703 but I found this article and this is what I'm using in 1703. It must be working as my Wi-Fi card requires an ancient driver and I know there are updates, I get one every major update.

In the article quite a ways down there is a link labelled “Disable Automatic Driver Updates Hacks”
This downloads a zip file with two registry hacks. Read the paragraph above the link. I used the hack on my V1703 (Creators). Likely have to run Hack after each major update, Anniversary, Creator, XXXX.

There is also a tutorial on hiding Windows updates but you have to hide each driver as Nvida releases them. I, like you, have a working system and will tend to driver updates when required.

Thanks for your reaction. I did not realize that it is possible to defer automatic driver updates (Sysdm.cpl).
Since the nVidia driver had already downloaded, the loop continued.
However, I just updated to the creators version (from 1607 to 1703) and that solved the problem.

 

Excellent. There was another looping update and in that case the member hid the update.

Glad things are working, these are machines can be the death of us.
