Windows 10: Lose Internet Connectivity after EVERY Windows Update

EVERY single (unsolicited) Windows 10 Home update procedure knocks out my internet access so I can't access internet after a Windows Update.

Found several solutions here at 10 Forums some time back. The solution that works for me (on laptop or desktop, ethernet or wifi) is this:

Go to Control Panel
> Network & Internet
> Network and Sharing Center
> click the Connections: option (either 'Ethernet' or 'Wifi') depending on whether wired or wifi
> click 'Properties'
> click once on 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' so it is highlighted
> click properties
> ensure 'Obtain an IP address automatically' is selected
and
> scroll to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) so it is highlighted
> click properties
> ensure 'Obtain an IP address automatically' is selected

Every Windows update removes the 'Obtain an IP address automatically' settings on both my machines.

My question is:

Does anyone know how to get these settings to stay permanently? It's so annoying having every single Windows update knock out my internet access.

Win 10 Home 64 bit connected to ActionTec wireless 802.11N VDSL2 modem router via fibre.

Keep losing internet connection every 30 minutes or so

Hello. I started having this problem where my pc keeps losing internet connection for about a minute or 2 every 30 minutes. This started happening after the anniversary update. I've tried resetting my router, updating my drivers and switched off the power
saving mode. However, for some reason my internet connection doesnt drop if im in a skype call or playing an online game but if im just browsing the web it loses connection. Anybody have any idea what could cause this?

Every time I receive a windows upgrade, after restarting the PC I lose all connection to the Internet.

The trouble shooter reports that one or more protocols are missing from the system and that registry sockets entries are missing.

I have tried the reset adapter to default settings offered by the trouble shooter and this fails.

If I continually restart the PC, eventually I get Internet service back.

However 'ServiceHost Local Service shows network restricted and the internet connection is at best hit and miss.

Anyone any ideas, I'm sick of rolling back to the base windows 10 restore point every time an update comes through.

I also have this problem. I find that if I do a cold boot the network settings appear again. I just assumed Microsoft expect everybody to do this as it solves most problems

 

Whenever it sleeps i have to restart in order to get a connection. it's one thing after the other with windows 10

I have this issue too, and I have not implemented this fix (yet) because everything normally works fine on my system after the updates are completed, but I as a software developer I can see an easy fix for what you are describing if you implement an automated work around via the command prompt (or PowerShell) and task scheduler.

Basically it sounds like you are saying your IP configuration settings get messed up during an update, and it remains messed up after the update has finished installing.

I'm not sure if you are any good at figuring out code, but creating a power shell script or batch file to run based on specific events with the task scheduler shouldn't be overly challenging to figure out.

This site describes the process of configuring automatic IP addressing with the command prompt:

Follow that tutorial, turn the command into a batch file, and then look up how to use the task scheduler on your PC to run said batch file.

You could simply run the batch file anytime your computer is woken up and that should settle your issue, but it still may be overkill. Alternatively, try to figure out an event you want to use to 'schedule' the task at, maybe on update (not sure if that's possible though) and then you are set.

Sorry for not providing you with the exact batch file to get this done, as I said, I have not felt the need to implement this 'fix' personally, and I just ran across this thread, so I do not have working code to give you.

I am pretty confident my described solution will work though.
