    Losing active pane in Explorer when switching between views


    Hi,I've recently upgraded my laptop to Win 11 and everything seems fine but there is a change to Explorer that is driving my crazy. I might have 3,000 photos in a folder and, in working through them and editing photos as I go, I need to switch between Details view and Extra Large Icons all the time. Firstly, Explorer needs to be in file number sequence although the principle is likely to be the same with other sorting.In Win10 and 8.1, when switching views, the the Pane showing the files will go to the top of the page. To find the file you're working on, simply use a left or right arrow

    Setting the Preview pane to show or hide in File Explorer will apply to all folders. If you wish to hide the Preview pane in File Explorer, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Tap on View tab.
    • Click Preview Pane to view/hide it.

    I understand that you are not getting the details of the file in File Explorer. We will help you.

    I suggest you to refer the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows + E keys, opens the File explorer.
    • Click on the View tab in File ribbon.
    • Click on the Details Pane. Check if the details are appearing in File explorer after selecting any files.

    Preview pane not functional / causing system issues

    Hi,

    We can see here that you're having an issue with using the preview pane for File Explorer. Since using the preview pane affects the CPU usage when trying to view Office files, we could suggest that you changed your File Explorer View setting into the Navigation
    pane by performing the following steps:

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Click on the View tab.
    • Select Preview pane to remove it from being highlighted.

    Once done, try to open files using Office apps and check if this helps your Surface Pro 4 works fine.
