  1. Losing SMB 1.0 mapping after 20H1

I have an older NAS that I use for backups on my network. It uses SMB 1.0. Before the newest update I never had issues accessing it. Now, every time I restart my PC and try to access it I get "The specified network name is no longer available" and I map the drive again. I do have SMB 1.0 client support installed. Any thoughts on troubleshooting this?

    smb 1 to smb2 upgrade

I attached a USB 3 drive to my Linksys 7310 router, then mapped a network drive from one Win10 laptop to bulk several GB of files - no problem. When I try to map to that share with another Win 10 laptop, I get an error message that the share is using SMB
1, and SMB 2 is required. How do I upgrade or workaround?

Without SMB, how do we map a network drive?

Even without SMB, open File explorer and select This PC. In the FE ribbon, select the 'Computer' tab.

Click on 'Map network drive' then again in its dropdown list and you can then just follow the wizard through.

You can also access network drives without mapping them. In FE's address bar type in the network folder address you want such as \\NetworkComputerName\SharedFolderName

Losing SMB 1.0 mapping after 20H1

The mapped name of a folder is stuck

I have never had to do anything else to remove an old network drive mapping. [The mapped drives I have are all listed even though they are not currently connected].

If I understand the situation correctly -
    • You have mapped \\TOWER\0 SYNCHRONIZ and that is confirmed by HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network
    • But File explorer insists that you have mapped to a [removable?] drive you have called 0 SYN that is connected to the network computer called T instead
1 Does HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network contain an entry for 0 SYN or \\T at all?
    2 Does HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Portable Devices\Devices contain 0 SYN as a 'FriendlyName' entry?
3 Can 0 SYN be found in your Registry elsewhere [such as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares]?
