Windows 10: Lost ability to control volume to default device using mouse buttons after updating audio...

Hello, everyone! I really need your help so I can "live the way I used to. " So far, I have been using programmable buttons on my mouse to change the volume on Windows for over a decade. Recently I decided to change my mouse to a new one, which also allows you to program buttons. This one even has a volume control by default. For the first few weeks of use, everything worked as it should, and I was very happy with the new mouse and the fact that Windows adapted very quickly. Due to the replacement of the speakers also - I updated my audio drivers. After this procedure - the volume control

Set new audio device default for volume mixer in Windows 10

I use two audio devices:

• Default (audio) device "Realtec Digital Output (Optical)"
  
• Default communication device "Lautsprecher (Speaker)"
  

My goal:
I want to have the default audio volume on my default communication device, instead of the default device - at all times.

What I tried so far:
Changing the volume mixer to my communication device explicitly works temporary, but as soon as I close the settings window, the default audio volume is reset again to the default audio device.

How can I make it permanent that windows uses my communication device for default volume control?

The issue with volume control could have happened due to the corrupted or outdated driver. To resolve your issue, we suggest that you follow the 2 methods below:

Method 1: Run the Audio Troubleshooter on the system.



Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Sound. We would suggest you run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Audio



Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key+X, select Control panel.
• Change the view as an option on the top right to Large icons.
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the playing Audio troubleshooter

Method 2. Uninstall and reinstall the latest drivers from the manufacturer website.

Follow the steps to update the audio drivers:

• Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Expand the Sound, Video and game controllers.
• Right-click on the Sound card and click on Uninstall.
• Install the latest audio driver from the manufacturer website.

Suddenly lost ability to connect & stream to audio devices via BT

There we go:

All seemingly perfectly normal... EDITED TO ADD: List is a bit empty as I nuked all devices from there yesterday evening. To reiterate:

• I can easily pair with/to non-Audio devices and they do work fine (mouse, laptop, phone)
• I seemingly can also pair with Audio device (speaker, headset) but pairing as such is not acknowledged as a success by such device, and I am unable to connect to it later ('That didn't work. Make sure your Bluetooth device is still discoverable, then try again')
• I can remove devices as I see them fit
• I can reinstall whichever drivers I want and in whichever way (normal, clean, etc.) - with (again: seemingly) successful results.

Further thoughts anyone?
