  1. Lost access to C: drive after changing ownership

    Hi,

I've lost Access to my C: drive after changing ownership to administrator from TrustedInstallerI did this because all my drives were set to read-only after a W10 update. I tried to revert the change but since the administrator user is in C: drive I cannot even access command prompt as admin. I am now trying to do a clean install of windows 10 on that same drive after formatting said drive. However when trying to install I get the error files are missing.

    :)

  2. lost access to c drive on windows 10.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

Try these methods and check if that helps:

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to follow these steps to take the ownership of the drive.

    a. Right click on
    Drive C and click Properties.

    b. Switch to
Security tab, click Edit and Add to add your user account, if it is not listed. Assign the
full control permission for your own account and click OK.

    c. Click
Advanced, switch to Ownership tab and click
    Edit button
    .

    d. Highlight
your user account and click Apply, and then click
    OK.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to disable to UAC settings and check.

    a. In search
    type User account control.

    b. Select
    Change User Account Control Settings.

    c. Move the slider to
    Never notify and click Ok.

    Method 3:

I would suggest you to go through the article and follow the steps given. Here is the link for your reference.

Changed Ownership of C:\ and Can't Fix

    Hi Greg,

Let's get this issue sorted. To better assist you with this concern, we would like to know the following information:

    • Which account is the new owner of the C drive?
    • Are you using an account with administrator rights?
    • Have you tried changing the ownership back to yourself?

In the meantime, let's try taking back the ownership by following the steps provided by
    BurrWalnut in the following thread:
Is there a way to take ownership of my C drive?

You may also perform a repair upgrade using a
    Creators Update ISO
file. This method can repair broken operating system files while preserving your files, settings and installed applications. For more information and steps on how to perform a repair upgrade, kindly refer to the wiki article created
by Andre Da Costa on the following link:
How to perform a repair upgrade using the Windows 10 ISO file
    .

Keep us updated on the status of the issue, and we will be glad to assist you further.

  4. Lost access to C: drive after changing ownership

Windows 10 c: drive not accessable

I was trying to solve a problem I had with accessing several folders, following the steps on a web site, and

I got a message that the owner of the C; drive was being erased!

Since then I have no access to the c: drive, I keep getting "access denied", "you don't have the proper permissions", "you don't have read permission", and when I finally got into Safe Mode and clicked on C:/properties/security, it said "Owner: Unable to
    display current owner".

I've tried more methods than I want to list trying to get ownership of the C: drive and set permissions back where they belong.

Where is the c: drive owner entered? Would I need to RegEdit? If so, please provide step by step because all I know about RegEdit is that it's dangerous to mess with.....

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
