    Lost activation after resizing partition


    I don't know if the right place, but I'll share my problem. Last days I resized my C: drive in order to put Linux on my free space and dual boot. Since then my windows lost his activation, gave me eroor code 0xC004F012 and don't want to shut down - just log off. Have someone experienced this and any ideas for fixing. Thanks in advance.

    Windows 10 couldn't be installed We couldn't update the system reserved partition

    Ok I now understand the source of the problem - the upgrade to windows 10 pro was not the upgrade from windows 7 but the Nov 2015 update to my existing windows 10 pro.

    I tried to use the minitool to resize the partition but it ended up wiping both partitions.

    I've re-installed from the original media and I notice that it automatically created a new partition that is 450MB and is after the main Win 10 partition. The original install made the partition 100MB and placed it before the partition created which is
    why I lost everything on C drive when I tried to resize the partitions.

    So this problem has been resolved and the Nov patch/upgrade was installed correctly this time.

    I'm still reinstalling applications, and trying to reconstruct data that was lost when the SSD drive resizing of the partitions failed.

    Thank you for your help and the last reply , unfortunately received after my drive was wiped, was very helpful.

    W10 System Reserved Partition Error

    The way Andre De Costa describe to solve the problem is OK, but you need to get

    Minitool Partition Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free

    With this program you can resize the small system partition, first remember to resize the data partition just after the system partition, just need 300 MB, the great thing with this program is that you can resize the data partition for the start, just use
    the slider and the use the arrows on the side to only make the partition 300 MB smaller, then you can resize the system partition with the 300 MB.

    If you are running version 10586, just go to activation menu, select 'change product key' and enter old 7/8 key.

    Can't say I have encountered this problem...I do have Linux in multiboot - seems odd that your Windows installation is affected though - as @cereberus has suggested reactivate with the original key or restore.
