Windows 10: Lost app data

After upgrade to Windows 10 1903 I have lost app profiles and app data.

Lost data from hard drive, what to do now?

Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown
I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. Data lost on Win 10 people app


I doubt if those are really lost.
Look at your People App settings in the first instance to see what Account(s) it is syncing with.

Then to Filter Contact list and make sure the 'Show Contacts from' list is what you want > Done.

Then in general Windows settings > Privacy > Background Apps have the Mail and People App running. Those are virtually the only ones I allow to run in the background out of a very long list.

For example, in mine it syncs with 2 Outlook Mail Accounts and a Gmail Account.
You can obviously go to those accounts using the Webmail interface to see the contacts in those.

 

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.
