Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

I had an issue with Sharepoint 2010 opening documents in read only mode. I tried a few fixes I found searching Google, but nothing worked. Then I found a fix that said to do some of the other steps i've done already, and if those fail rebuild the windows profile.

So i rebuild my profile, everything with Sharepoint is fixed, i'm having no other issues, until i tried to open a .jpg file yesterday. I have no program associated with .jpg after the profile rebuild, and i can't find the default photo viewer in Windows 10 to reassign it to the .jpg extension.

I've seen reg hacks to get back the old Win7 photo viewer but i don't want that one, I never liked it in the first place. I did like the Win 10 one. Is there a trick i'm not finding to get the Win10 default photo viewer back?

    :)

  2. Right-Click preview option missing after Win 10 install

Here's an easy way to fix the problem and get the right-click preview option back. I lost the Preview after the recent Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Like others, I love the ability to click through lots of photos via the right-click preview.

Go to Settings > System > Default Apps. Under "Photo Viewer" choose Windows Photo Viewer as the default photo viewer.

    Happy previewing!

Windows 10 Element Not Found Error

I will run a windows update and then the photo viewer will break in both the administrative account profile and or the standard account profile. Error "Element not found".

The standard account now has TWINUI as the default photo viewer and if you try to change the default photo viewer, the default app screen closes and blows up. I cannot keep creating new profiles for every single machine. In the administrator mode, it lets
me pick "Paint" as a default photo viewer and then I can view the photos. This is not a solution. Paint is archaic and old. I can't print multiple images at a time in Paint. Why does the photo app keep imploding? This happened to Microsoft Edge. It
didn't work for several months and after one of the last windows updates, it's working again. Windows 10 is extremely buggy. Test your updates first, Microsoft!!

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done *Smile I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

Just to verify, did you already try to reset the app?

If you mean going to settings/system/default apps and clicking the reset there yes, twice now. The photo viewer option is blank and remains blank after the reset, so i have to choose a default. When i click to choose a default all i get is Paint.

As test, use OPTION TWO to re-register the app instead to see if that may restore it.
